The car made 196whp most likely due to the badly dented secondaries on the ssac header.

Car peaked power right at 7900 or 8k. Cant remember exactly. However the car still held over 180whp to 9000.
These are facts.


Your friend made 196 at 7,900 rpm and 180 at 9,000, so lets do some math:

196 - 180 = 16 hp

His motor loss 16 hp. That doesn't sound like he was holding power. The torque and hp is nose diving. This is your own quote.

Most of your other statements I don't have a problem with. If your motor can hold the power than yes you can rev it out, otherwise it a waste and hard on the engine. You got the noobs thinking they can do the same.

Not going to waste my time repeating myself. 16whp over 1000 rpm is nothing when the loss under 7000 is much much greater every 100 rpms lower than 7k. Its not rocket science.

Rev to 8500rpm, put the limiter at 9000rpm. Hold the gear if you have to on the track, or during first gear. But when I bumped the limiter to 9k is when the engine really seemed to come alive with the big turbo.

Only way to know exactly where you should rev to is to dyno. Shift where you're gonna have the best average power.

Hey guys, I just had my g/f take this vid of the tachometer/speedometer in the VVL, from 1st gear to the very beginning of 3rd gear. As I said many times, in this car, 1st gear is pretty much useless since I just get spinning tires, so I waited in the vid I until I got up to speed before hitting WOT, but 2nd gear is pretty good. This was also going up a pretty steep hill. I believe I shifted just a couple hundred RPM before fuel cut (which is about 8000rpms) You can see VVL engages at about 5200rpms.

Ashston, I respect you for the Turbo game but I think you are exaggerating about the N1 cam NA rpm capability.

Most motor with N1 normally peak power around 7500 rpm and nose dive right after that. Only motors with custom intake manifold and header peak above 8,000. Maybe one or two VE are able to hold peak power to 9,000 and they are not running N1. All you have to do is look at the VE dyno database on the old sr20forum.

BlueRb240 and I are speaking from experience testing cams and intake manifolds. BlueRB240 has help set up 5 dyno days where we have seen 12 VE equipped cars dynoed and none of them ever peak above 8,000 rpm with just N1 cams.

If you still insist your friend motor made power all the way to 9,000 rpm, please provide a dyno chart and BlueRB240 in return can provide more dyno charts since he has access to this particular dyno jet.


Really not trying to start shot but my old 2.0 w n1 cams was peaking as high as 8600 rpm internally stock other then springs..

Cory, I think its just that California smog choking up those ve's down there or everyone is on basic chipped ecus. Again ill say it, proved to kill power tremendously.

The header in use and cam gear settings make a huge difference.

And your car is still pulling hard as hell at 8200, just wants to keep going, Again can definitely benefit from more revs for sure.

Here was my stock cam VE with no rev limiter. You can hear the pitch/tone of the motor change at about 7800 which is were power takes a nose dive.
