Plans for High CR VE build
This motor will be some weekends track warrior and daily driven in the summer. I done lots of reading/searching. It's time to take some action. Here's a setup I'm thinking about going with.

-Mazworx CP SR20VE Pistons, 86 or 86.5 x 12.5:1 CR.
-Eagle rods
-New OEM head bolts
-New OEM bearings
-8 CW from a DE
-DE Girdle
-Other parts needed would be NEW OEM

Head with be stock w/N1 cams, turbofreak springs and retainers. (Glad I didn't sell these:rolleyes

Got my hands on a LOW(62k) milage lowport DE. The VE(thanks DJ) is running condition w/rod knock. I'm going to find a good machine shop for this build. Plan to get everything balance from crank pulley to flywheel. Just want to get it done right the 1st time and have it be reliable for years to come.

Don't need other input, like headers, exhaust, clutch, ECU etc.. Everything else has been properly chosen/taken care of. Just thoughts for the block, please.

I'd probably got with a sleeved block, and either 90 or 92mm pistons, with the stock 86mm DE crank. Much fatter torque curve, Miko says you can get 250whp without an issue. And you should still be able to rev it out to 9k. As far as bearings, I'd go with the ones for a GTi-R.

You just can put GTIR bearing on a DE rod. You would have to run GTIR rods, which is not a great idea for NA use.

90 x 86 = 2188.5 Thats a small 2.2L

92 x 86 = 2286.8 Thats a small 2.3L

There is no need to run aftermarket rods for a NA VE build, so save your money and dont buy rods.

get an intake manifold made, Neither a stock nor N1 manifold will be enough to make big power

I run gtir bearing on carrillo rods.

12.5:1 CR 90mm pistons will be slightly domed compared to the size of the dome on 86mm pistons. If possible i would go 90mm 13:1 CR with as flat a piston as possible and deep valve reliefs.

Oh yeah, get some headwork

Wasn't someone talking (may have been ashton) about sourcing a 100mm crank???

i think the block you have planed is good. However for a little more you can get it sleeved to either 90mm or 92 and make some serious power.

However i ONLY recommend sleeving from someone experienced, since you are getting the pistons from mazworxs then i would get it done through them. If you live too far away and big shipping cost come into it, then i would keep it 86mm.

I have seen soo many horror stories when it comes to sleeving that have ended up costing thousands. It's not that expensive if done right the first time by someone experienced, but if not its like throwing your wallet in gasoline aqnd lighting the match.

I DO NOT plan on sleeving the block. No one close has experience with SR blocks, none I trust. Block will stay 86mm.

Yeah, I was considering using my stock VE rods. Or should I just go with DE rods?

smart choice imo

the ve rods from memory are a little lighter than de rods so i would use them. But i could be wrong on that one.

Yeap, I think they are lighter. Plus I've got almost 2 sets.
