As some have pointed out, the factory intake manifold does not flow equally across all four runners. Number 4 runner has the largest csa(cross section)follow by #1, while #2 and #3 are about the same. Runner 4 and 1 have larger csa than the port entrance, while 2 and 3 are the same.

I've already dyno tested the factory intake, versus ported factory, and O2 VE manifold. The factory piece was the winner. It tied with the ported manifold for hp but was better in the low and midrange. The O2 loss power everywhere with it bigger runners and plenum.

The factory intake manifold is not the bottleneck. It's not because it does not flow enough, it because the length is not optimum for the rpm where the VE is making peak hp. Think harmonic and play with the length.

ok what i would like to know in this post is where was the porting done?

The problem with the test subjects is that the standard is crap, the ported one could be worse or amplify the standard problems and the o2 one is known to be crap on the ve due to incorrect runner length

The problem with the standard manifold is not flow, but rather air speed. The reverse tapper causes the air to speed up entering runners then slow down through the runners, so the air is traveling slowest as it enters the port. So it really doesn't matter if the standard manifold flows double the head, it will still be a restriction due to air speed.

Reminds me of the old ford 4 bangers where the ports where too big and people would weld up the bottom of the port creating higher entry point and more importantly faster valve entry speed.

Can we get off the head games! If you don't want to talk about the thread topic. Start you own thread.

I APPOLOGIZE FOR TRYING TO OFFER GOOD INFORMATION, I WILL BE SURE TO DELETE EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE POSTED THAT I FEEL IS CONTRIBUTING TO THE COMMUNITY

If your only High compression build idea is throwing 15:1 comp pistons in a stock VE motor, then by all means go for it.

dude you topic has already been answered! why bitch about people suggesting alternative ways of making power after the question has been answered? you cant post thoughts on a high comp build then bitch when people talk about the head! its all good info being posted why be the "keep on topic" nazi. What more is there to say? we have given our thoughts on your bottom end.

Anyway i apologize as i was the one asking the questions to 5speed and snickers. So i will start a new thread to rectify this

bad nismos13silvia! bad! now you've gone and hurt snickers feelings
Don't get upset snickers, everyone appreciates your feedback as you have a lot more experience with these motors than most.
That said you don't need to delete all your info everytime you have a disagreement with someone.
i'm sure nismos13silvia didn't mean anything by it just that the info was getting off topic from his original thread and it would be alot more useful to everyone in a new thread was started. I would definitely like to see a thread specifically on the VE head where all the stuff that has been discussed so far can be, along with anything else relevant to modifying the head. Everything you've said snickers is very useful to people (like me) who plan to do more to the head than leave it standard. So if you don't mind snickers can you start a thread and share some of your experience about picking the better ve head's to start with/core shift/ what areas of show best improvement to porting eg. bowl work/combustion chambers/ should we focus on the exhaust port more than intake etc etc.
Just to be clear i'm not attacking anyone or picking sides. I'm just trying to offer a solution so that snickers info doesn't get lost

My bad. No hard feelings There a LOT of guys on this forum that have way more experience building engines then I ever will. AND, I thank everyone of the for their input and experience.

Oh well, whatever.
