i'm not good with electrical things thats why i wasn't to sure on how to go about checking the maf but its weird that when i unplugged the maf and plugged it back it started working fine a again, well i haven't driven it but it was idling with no problem.

Pull the rubber boot away from the back of the MAF harness and check the condition of the wires going into the plug. I've seen the wires fray there.

If you pull the Maf the car is suposed to shut off. Why? Is a load sincing device and this is the only one we have for the PCM (ECU) to determine air fuel ratio. We do not have MAPs on our cars. It is funny though that pluging it back in has seemed to fix your problem. I think there are other factors going on. How long has the car sat. If it is a fuel issue as another has said letting it sit may have allowed scrapping cloging a line or fuel filter to shift. Do you have a check engine light?

the car hasn't been sitting. when i drive the car it back fires and feels extremely hesitant as if its misfiring i swapped out the distributor and no change, i checked the connection to the maf and its not fried, and i'm not sure what it can be. any suggestions on the update?

Check your ecu for error codes like weak ign signal ect.

disconnecting the maf will put the ecu into a fault mode and allow the engine to rev to 2000rpm without the maf connected. it may be a load sensing device but the ecu guessess fuel using closed loop. i drove over 100 miles with my maf disconnected and not going over 2000rpm on a weekend when my maf died

i would say fuel pump is able to hold fuel pressure but not flow the fuel ya need. common problem with walbros

i think its is a fuel problem., might be worth checking the fuel filter but i really think it is the fuel pump. not enugh fuel and the engine is running lean so the ecu is trying to protecct the engine
