Where to set CS cam gears w/ N1 cams?
So I've been doing a bit of reading and it seems various people have various opinions on where the gear timing is set.

I see some people run +5/-5 and others run +3/-2, but can someone explain the major differences?

I'll be mating N1 cams with Custom Steel cam gears, SR20VE, 3" Hotshot CAI, SSAC Header (newest model), 2.5" dp, and so forth. I've got a Calum RT for tuning purposes as well. I'll be running stock springs and retainers (not looking to rev over 8k).

Not quite sure where to set them besides stock? Anyone care to enlighten me?

for this set up vvl would be best to turn on at 5k or 5100k
when you shift its within 200rpms of hittin the vvl again.... thats how third gear will feel.
i believe when sitting down at a dyno with egt, an tuneable program, playing with the cam gears an gettin the settins to YOUR car standards will achieve much gr8er power but the more juice you get i say the higher the vvl should turn on.

SR16VE N1 and SR20VE "cams on aftermarket cam gears"
Bump this up - I don't see a lot of thread topics in the VVL section on cam gear settings. I've read a few threads and a few of ashtonsser's threads that has a lot of info in them, but not as many as the old forum. I'm reading that +2,-2 is the best all around setting?

^This thread has the most info from what I have gathered in the VVL section. Below are the links of post with cam gears settings.

Post #45 with N1's - http://www.sr20-forum.com/161005-post45.html - +4,-4? What cam gears?

Post #113 with 20ve's - http://www.sr20-forum.com/162088-post113.html -10,+10 <--- Now this post is talking about using cam gears on 20ve cams, so in which he mentioned having very little bottom end, which is normally not wanted by many.

Post # 131 with N1's - http://www.sr20-forum.com/162313-post131.html was set at +3,-3. His timing was at 15*.

Post # 134 with 20ve's - http://www.sr20-forum.com/162355-post134.html was set at +5,-5?

Post # 184 - OFF TOPIC: but interesting, http://www.sr20-forum.com/164233-post184.html I'm getting from this that sr20ve cams at 0,0 on big turbo and tubular is the best thing smoking?

I run mine at 0,0 because I have yet seen a magic number that works best on these cams.

I've spoken to several people and it varies with what your modifications are. I ended up going with +4/-4 and I'm very pleased with the results. Anything higher then +4/-4 and you will have to start measuring for clearances as well.

Mine are at +5/-5.
I switch at 5300/5500RPM.
N1s with BC S/R.

I think the answer is; Whatever you can get on the dyno.

If you have loot for N1s then dyno time should be in the budget anyway.
