Thread: SR20VE 4-2-1 "budget" header

^I'll try to post a camera pic tomorrow of my header. You guys should be getting it soon. My header looks great. I think Macakin received a tracking # before me.

Mr 4Door, I'm glad you got yours and you are happy with it. I knew Chuck would come through and see things right. I'm sure he will set things right with everyone else also.

I got the car up on a lift today to investigate the potential exhaust leak and it seems that the welding job done on the header is not finished. The spot I am pointing at with the screw driver isn't the only gap. The problem exists in a few other places. I really want to hear what Charles has to say about this.

edit - Upon re-reading my post, I want to add that I am not sure that there is an exhaust leak at this point, but I want Charles to look at the picture to see whether this is how things are supposed to be or not.

mine looks the same and has some others spots as well, I hope it doesn't leak because it looks like a dificult area to work on, anyway I'm happy with it and it isn't installed yet

^My header looks like that as well on every runner where they all meet at the bottom. I hope it doesn't leak . They appear to be sleeved pretty tight, so hopefully it is ok. I agree, that looks like a tough area to work on, but I'll have a local check it out and see what he thinks.

Many race headers are nothing more than slip fit. As the material heats it seals so it may leak on startup slightly but it will seal. The welds are likely to avoid the use of a spring setup to keep the pieces together. Fear not people....

^Yeah that's how the VRS kits are. Like I said, the sleeves look really tight so it should be ok .

I would wonder if it's hard for the pipes to expand and seal up if sections of the pipes are welded and others are not. That'd be my worry. Then again, the direction of travel for the exhaust makes leaking through a slip fit unlikely to begin with.
