On a VE, the "something that looks like fpr" is on the passenger side and the real FPR is on the drivers side of the injector gallery. The gauge should still go between the fuel tank and the passenger side of the injector gallery where the fuel enters the gallery. The FPR on the drivers side of the gallery controls the pressure and releases fuel to be returned to the tank.
It's easy to get confused on the VE because of the way the lines run. The supply line runs from the fuel filter toward the FPR, but it actually goes under the FPR and snakes along behind the valve cover to the damper and then supplies the injector gallery.
tank-> filter-> lines behind valve cover -> damper-> injector gallery -> FPR -> return to tank.
The best place to put the gauge is between the fuel filter and the metal injector gallery line that runs under the FPR behind the valve cover from the driver's side to feed the injector gallery through the pulse damper on the passenger side. Just find the fuel filter and follow the exit hose to the metal pipe under the FPR. Splice into this rubber hose to install your fuel pressure gauge. Remember to pull the fuel pump fuse and run the car until it stalls to remove pressure before cutting or removing any fuel lines.
