Lost over 30 whp and over 20 wtq by swapping my stock ecu out (sad)
I had my p10ve tuned in april 2008 and was pleased with the results:
196hp and 156tq
stock de ecu and safc

Well I wanted to up my redline to 8k so I bought a b13 ecu (off craigslist) and sent it to Calum.

Calum calls me up and informs me that the ecu is an OLD Jim Wolf ecu. So old that Calum himself was shocked. Calum told me that the ecu is pretty much stock so I told him just to go as planned and raise the redline to 8k.

I swapped the ecu in and right away the train pull on top end was gone. The low end power was gone...Hmm may be i need to get it retuned. So I bring it to the same guy and he was only able to push out 170hp something and 130tq something. This is a disgrace and shameful.

Tuner said that the ecu must have had a different timing on there or a way different mapping.

So now my plan is just to send Calum my Stock ecu that made great power and have that redline raised.

Im just bummed cuz im out tunning cost etc. Should I just try to advance my timing a bit to see if that will make a difference?

Send him the stock ECU and tell him to raise the redline. Walla.

If its not broke dont try to fix it.

Is it possible your base timing is off? Maybe your base timing is way advanced which is causing power loss all over because of preignition perhaps? I know with my DE ECU I have to run 7* over the base 15* or the car falls on its face everywhere and when going to the Calum ECU I believe base timing has to be at 15*, correct me if I am wrong here. Just a thought.

Why not just get a realtime and be able to change things yourself. You might even see a gain over your previous numbers? I would think if you could mess with timing and fuel maps you will gain over the old numbers. It sounds like you have someone who can tune so why not.

You tuned your car with cmybootoo right? My cousin dynoed his car and he only got 158whp and 127trq with nothing changed...just a different dyno. The graphs pretty much overlay each other. I have pretty much the same setup as you with the same calum tune for N1's cams and only pulled 166whp. I was pretty dissappointed myself.

yeah cmybootoo is my brother. All I wanted was to raise my redline. I feel like I ruined my dream car. Since I know I can reach great hp and tq #'s, I think im just going to send my stock ecu and raise that to 8k. Tuner did say that the timing is off. I really dont want to mess with it right now....

Im pretty proud of my initial results..Car is still pretty fast but i just dont feel that big tq rush at top end...

I've been reading a lot of the VE Dyno's on this and the old forum and I have noticed that people with SAFC are getting way better results than a Calum with the basic bin. Hence why I migth want to change to a SAFC setup just to give it a try.

Well I think its hit or miss. His brother dynoed 192 and 158trq in cali. My cousin who bought the car dynoed it and only pulled 158whp and 127trq w/ no changes to the SAFC. Curtis who has the calum basic dynoed and pulled more power across the board...both cars are nearly identical except for ecu. My car with the N1's was horrible with the calum cam program. You basically have to get it tuned, there is no basic drop in program we can all share.

Here is a DE SAFC previously tuned

Here is a Calum Ve program

Here is mine w/ the calum cams program. I wonder if p10socal dyno looks anything like this.

mail maps arnt the way to go

calum make realtime tunable ecu's right? this will always net you the best result, providing you have a good tunner
