Hotter Plug in a VE?
i've searched on both forums and can't find any info.

i pulled my iridium plugs last night and they're fouled like crazy. they've only been in for a few months. my question, is there any reason for me to not step down to a hotter 5 series iridium?

i've done all the fixes i can think of (but not all prior to checking for fouling). o2 sensor, plug wires, dist cap & rotor, coolant temp sensor, pcv, set tps & idle, set base timing 15*, reground maf, fixed knock sensor.

or should i try another set of 6 series with everything in order? does it mean i'm not running hard enough to warrant using 6's and should set down to 5's so the plugs stay clean.

well i closed the gap on the plugs after checking them, from .041 to .035. and sprayed them off with berrymans tb cleaner.

had a final exam this morning drove there and back and checked the plugs a few min ago and they look okay now. i'm not sure why they were so fouled. i tried not downshifting so much and letting the car stay between 3-4k rpms. not sure if that help either.

so i'm going to stick with my iridium 6's. with the .035 gap.

You should be able to use a bkr6eix and .044" gap with no issues as long as the right fuel mix is there. If you still foul them out then there is prob excess fuel causing the problem.

Smaller gap will prevent blow-out, but it won't fix the problem. Going smaller on gap will muddy throttle response, though it may not be that noticeable.

hmmm...it never felt like it was missing with it wider. maybe i'll try our .044 and see what happens. maybe it was just a fluke that they were fouled since they came clean.
