i agree^^, but i think to get the 8 counter to the weight of the 4(which is what nx+ is questioning) there will have to be other prceedures applied and would negate the positives. unless he is going to use it for race purposes.

Well I disagree. There is no problem in taking off 3/4 pound of weight off of each counterweight. Thats a total of 6 pounds.

Lets say a 8 CWC is 38 pounds and a 4 CWC is 30 pounds.

I would take a 8 CWC at 32 pounds that has been knife edged over the 30 pound 4 CWC.

Some say dont use them because the VE has a 4cw crank.
Should I worry about the life of the engine if I use them?
Is it worth the gains,or Is it gonna hurt my engines life?

I am about to move my VE to a new shell, and was gonna add pullies while it was out.
Thanks for your input

I am going to throw this in because you asked. This was posted somewhere before that is why I remembered it. I know this from old school building numerous Toyota motors from way back when. It maybe less critical in the Nissan as anomaly pointed out, and I agree.

also this depends on who does the work on balancing the crank when done with the knifedging process., as i these cranks are well balanced from factory.in all honesty i think it would negate the purpose of the 8 counter in its original form.
i have you tried crankscrapers?

True, Andreas but the crank and the entire assembly, front pulley, crank, flywheel. rods and pistons should to be balanced.

SERacer you are stating the obvious, everytime you build a motor you should balance everything wether or not you have done anything to the crank.

You know that, I know that, a hand full of others know that, but the majority of bolt on kings do not know that.

Ok let me ask the question do you think it is necessary to to balance the rotating assembly when bolting on a aftremarket non dampened front pulley?
Just wondering what is your opinion.

...so basically, from what I read here, if you have a stock VE 4 CWC, it's just not worth the risk.
