Thread: VVL Activation Question

how do you guys have your switches set to turn off? like mine are on the default msd digital 200rpm window to turn off (turning on at 5400). so it if i shift and it drop below 5200 i'm back on low cams.

but would it be better to stay on the high cams, rather than dropping off it and building back up? like having the switch set to turn off at 4200, so when i shift it does come off high cams.

does this make sense?

So basically you don't want to drop out off VVL.

So set the Off switch around 4800k. I'm guessing you're shifting around 7200- 7500k?

yeah i got out today and got to run it, and i set it to 5000. that kept me in the lift shifting ~8000 (hard to tell lol, it gets there quick).

Mine are set at 5000. If I shift at 7-7500 they do not drop out of VVL. Anything lower than this, I think, is just going to waste gas.

I run 5200 ON and 4200 OFF.

This hole on off thing does noit make any sense.

If you set a VE motor up properly, you will have a seamless transition from low cam to high cam.

So if you drop below the switch point it will not matter.

My point is if you set your switch point to say 5200 RPMs and you have an off point at 4200 RPMs I can bet at 4200 to 4800 RPMs the low cam will make more power than the high cam so it is pointless in my opinion.

that's what i why trying to say. whether or not the low cam made more power below the switch. it sounds like it does. i have 5400 on and 5000 off.

Doesn't MSD make you switch it off at least 200 rpm below activating?

Dre, I left mine how it was set. I don't see a need to moving the points.

speedy - What gears are you referring to dropping out. If its from 1st to 2nd, your prob. just spinning tires. Shifting at 7.5k would still keep you in VVL at 5200 deactivating.

yea 1st. if i shift at 8000 at 5200 it still went out. but at 5000 it stayed in. i probably need to learn to shift quicker too.
