Thread: How to install Cams and Springs and/or Retainers in the VE

Sorry for the bad pictures, but is it acceptable for the shims to stick out this much?
I did make sure to put each one on the valve it came from and with the correct side down (judging by the circle of the stem imprinted on the bottom of the shims), but it just does not look right, at least compared to how they sat in the OEM retainers. Or do they set in once the motor is started?

Just wanted to chime for future reference that it is actually not possible to install the shafts the wrong way, so there is no need to worry.

I noticed that the hole for the allen bolt that tightens the shaft down is not drilled directly through the center of the shaft, but instead it is offset a bit. Thus it would be impossible to put the bolt in if the shaft was upside down. It is also impossible to switch the left and right shaft. The exhaust-side shaft is noticeably shorter, so you would catch your mistake if you tried installing the longer shaft on the exhaust side, because you would not be able reinstall the big plug at the end.
