Engine Swaps and ECUs
For those who have swapped SR20s into non-Nissans
(I guess this might apply to Nissan to Nissan swaps to?), what was your solution for the ECU?

Did you just pull the old wiring harness and replace it with a Nissan one and run the stock ECU?

The plan is to replace a Toyota 2zz with a SR20VE and turbo it. I'm just kinda stumped on my options for the ECU and wiring.

Am I right in assuming I'm going to need to rewire the whole car with a Nissan harness?

I've never done it before, but that's what I'd do. Unless of course you're willing to go stand-alone. =]

I'd separate the Toyota engine harness from the non-engine stuff (if there is any) and dump the Toyota engine harness. Then I'd clean up the unneeded stuff from the stock Nissan harness, use the stock Nissan ECU and call it a day. I assume you don't have inspection to deal with?

Depends what you mean by the whole car. Exterior lights, horn, etc. won't need rewiring.

Thanks for the input. I'm sure this talk of putting a SR20 in a non-Nissan is blasphemy and all. lol

As for stand-alones, whats a reasonably priced option for going turbo on a SR20VE? I'm willing to pay to do things right, however I think something like a Motec is a bit too pricey for me.
