recording was a bust, the amplifier overloads the laptop's mic input and it's distortion city. I'll have to try another method

Try running it through high or low pass filter. I'm sure there is a frequency in there that you can use. Actually a band-pass filter would work well.

Mic was what came with the personal amplifier device. Just de-soldered and lengthened. Btw turns out the cord I was using to connect to the laptop has a partial break in it. Probably what was causing the audio issues when i was trying to record.

IMO you should try using a cat 5 or cat 6 ethernet cable for mic , should get less noise in the wires
