here is a clip of knock vs non-knock at two different rpm ranges. this is obviously on a higher end unit.

id like to see your clips if you get a chance to try and compare your diy vs a high end unit.

Sorry haven't gotten a recording done. I need to get a ttrs splitter to reach the mic input on my laptop. But works real good. The clip holds pretty strong I left it clipped to the knock sensor bolt and it's stayed on. Even through some rough roads and stop and go traffic.

I loaned my dremmel out to a friend but once I get it back I'm going to cut the clip down and drill a hole through the copper to bolt it directly to the block.

I am keeping an eye on this

What would be really helpful would be to have an ecu tuning software that can record an audio input as part of the data log. Then play it back along with the engine data. That way you can map trace while listening to the audible knock signal :-)

The Nismotronic allows this feature. However, I think the stock knock sensors only go up to 4350 RPM (or something around there). I was just looking into this this past weekend while tuning

@JKTUNING: Any input on a "knock" feature?? Or can we use adjust the knock parameters to read throughout the RPM range?? I was JUST about to PM you this question actually

You can adjust the knock sensitivity and levels through out the RPM range.

The knock sensor thresholds are completely definable per cylinder and can be used through the entire RPM range if you wish to do so.

It occurred to me the other day that during this entire time I've been waiting for an opportunity to go to the store and buy a splitter, I could have bought one online and had it shipped. Doh, so I ordered one. Should have it in about a week.

Very cool! I didn't see this posted earlier. That unit makes it real easy to hear the knocking. From what I've heard in this little amp project, it's definitely not knocking. the sound quality isn't as crystal clear as in that video but I'm certain if it was knocking, I'd be able to tell. As soon as I get that splitter and get it recorded I'll post a couple clips so you can hear.

Does the knock sensor pickup other noises above 4800rpm? Or can i assume voltages over 3v are in fact picking up knock?
I am not getting any knock counts within the knock RPM window, but i have seen voltage spikes to as high as 4v at higher RPM in my logs. This is with conservative timing and AFRs.
