Well, the cams do not match the ECU, the injectors do not match the ECU. The Compression ratio is different as well. That is great that you have a "perfectly" running car. That does not mean it is correct or proper.

It is quite important the ECU matches the hardware on the car for proper optimization.

At the very least you should be using DE injectors and a DE MAF if you're going to use a DE ECU. VE injectors are considerably larger than DE ones and the car will run rich everywhere with the DE fuel map, o2 sensor will only be able to pull it back so far...

Mine has a 5spd p10 ecu, header intake/exh and light flywheel. It runs pretty smooth. I it's obviously not as fast as it should be but it's pretty decent. I get 27-30 mpgs. It required alot of debugging to get it to where it's at. I don't have and funky smells or noises.

You need to get something to tune your stuff like a AFC or nismotronic.. With stock DE ECU, I dyno'd at 14 degrees or so and when I bumped it up to 21 and gained something like 16whp? I would start it out at at least 20 and see if you have any pinging (you shouldn't) rather than 15 like others are recommending lol.. I have a wideband + a neo afc to activate cams / tune it a bit and it runs pretty good.. Got a good power line..

I'm running what I have in my sig plus a p10 obd2 ecu

My car ran poor as hell without tuning.. pig rich WOT and lean as hell at idle... Had to tune it pretty good just to make it run decent.. Would never recommend someone running it without at least a AFC and wideband.. I had to add as much as 44% or so at idle and take a way like -18% at some points of WOT

so will 20* timing with vvl connected that will not cause it to lean out on a de ecu?

a mans crawling through the desert, dying of thirst. he comes to a stall. "water, water" he plead's." sorry dude, no water, wanna buy a tie?"
he keeps crawling, hours pass. he comes to another stall. "water,water..please give me water" he begs. "sorry dude, we don't sell water, wanna buy a cheap tie but"
another day passes. on his last legs, he stumbles across a bar in the middle of nowhere. "WATER,WATER...PLEASE GIVE ME WATER". "sorry sir" says the bouncer "you can't enter without a tie on"

think about it....

no matter what you're a/f ratio will be fucked with a DE ECU unless you get a wideband and a tuner... I got my wideband for 110 shipped and I like it better than any other one lol that plus any kind of tuning software you will be good (afc or anything)
