You would need two ostriches .. your ECU uses 2 x 32kb chips so you would need to emulate both of them. So, that ends up being $350 JUST for the dual ostrich setup.

You would then need a chip programer (Moates.net Burn2 for example), they range around $90-100 shipped.

You will also need a consult cable .. depending on where you go could range from $50-100.

And you are still using restricted to the stock firmware and it's limitations.

Would that be plug and play, or do I need additional software or licenses?

Would I still need a eeprom burner after I finish tuning and disconnect the RT package?

Nico, you will need a RealTime ECU. For fine tunning, your daughterboard, you have to burn the chip over and over to get to the "final" setup.
I sold my Nismotronic Non Realtime for that reason, i preffer to do my own setting for my mods, its better than a "copied" setting for more than one engine...and also our 97 oct isn´t the same 97 that in other countries (Chilean fuel SUCKS), it's like 93, or even 91.....crappy fuel.

You could still use your current ECU with the NismoTronic package. The only thing you will need to do is solder 3 wires to the ECU pins

With a realtime ECU, you will no longer need to burn any chips. The changes you make to the tune stay on the ECU after you are done tuning!

I think without doubt nismotronic/nemu/tunercode is the best option for features/$$$ available for nissan tuning, not only that but john and dave are right there when you need any help, and when tunercode v6 comes later in the year things will get even better as the new firmware brings the package ever closer to the features of the available standalone ecu's!

Well, it looks like everything points in that direction, I just wanted to know what alternatives I had (for realtime, that's why I was looking at the ostrich emulator).

About the fuel, it's not that it sucks, it's just that we use the RON octane rating and others use MON or AKI. Our 95 rating is equivalent to 85–86 MON or 90–91 AKI.

I wish we had something closer to 100

yes v6 will be an upgrade to the RT nismotronic package, as tunercode is the custom firmware that the nemu runs and nismotronic tunes

as for comparison imo at the minute nismotronic package has the slight edge in features over nistune, and in the future that slight edge will be a gulf, but do some reading and make your own decision

jfyi i'm currently building a similar engine to yours, mine is currently a 16ve but i'm building a 20ve bottom end for it just now, though my end cr will be about 12.5-13:1 as i'm using cp 12.5:1 pistons, and of the available options i chose the nismotronic/tunercode/nemu rt package

TunerCode logging is by far the best OEM logging structure available (it isn't stock consult format).

TunerCode also adds extra features like set launch (launch control), spark (ignition cut) rev limit, overboost protection for all ROMs, user outputs for use with VVL solenoids, nitrous, etc .. the list goes on!

The NEMU RT board gives you 4 additional ADC input channels, without using any additional hardware .. to get this with a nistune board you would have to run a separate piece of hardware to the laptop.

The NEMU board also has onboard storage capabilities, which allows you to log directly to the NEMU board without the laptop .. then you can pull the logs when you get back to the pits or back home after a long drive and review them.

When we have V6 or the "SA" version ready we will surely let you guys know and have a full feature set posted!
