Cut and splice adds another point of failure, if your crimp/solder job is not up to par basically. I personally really like the idea of repinning, but my harness is a 32bit plug, which is probably worlds different from even older OBD2.

I'm 99% sure the white connectors/plugs don't plug into the blue connectors/plugs.
JDM OBD1's got white plugs, I actually have two of them. Sadly I don't have an OBD2 plug to compare against, but I can compare against blue obd1.
