Aem ems
I am thinking of getting an AEM EMS shortly. What is all needed to run in our cars? I am going to be putting it in a B14, are there any add ons I should get right away? Is there a good place to get a base map from? Thanks!

Make sure you have an appropriate laptop (with real life serial port if using AEM Series 1) for tuning.
Best thing to do is be prepared to ditch the MAF sensor and go with MAP+IAT.
Also I highly recommend AEM's alternative CAS disc.
And you'd do really well to buy a wideband sensor + controller to get useful fueling data. You can use the stock narrowband O2 sensor location. Wou won't need that thing anymore.

Other than that, it's good to download the tuning software (comes with all base calibrations) and start tinkering with the program to get a feel for it. Also download and look through the giant PDF user manual.

All stuff is downloaded from here: http://forum.aempower.com/forum/index.php

You may also need to update the device to the latest firmware when you first connect to it. Simple to do.

I am going to buy a series 2. I already have an AEM wideband, but I think I will pick up one of the CAS. Is the CAS needed to operate it, or is it just an add on?

The CAS is not required to get the car up and running, but it solves a lot of quirky/random ignition issues that you may or may not run into. For the money, it's worth it just to avoid the trouble. I think it is $50. Or maybe free with purchase?

Do I need the ECU connected to build a map?

You can work with the calibration file offline without the ECU connected and do most things no problem.

The replacement CAS disk for a B13 is $25, although it should of come with the purchase of the ecu.

s2 boxes come with the cas disc, and the later s1 boxes did... You can do anything offline that you can online... AEMTuner software is leaps and bounds ahead of AEMPro from yesteryear.

We've been using the ems-4 unit in a number of cars (my s13 (s13sr/vvl), reese marins s13 (kat), a turbo s2k, and keith vozzas s14 (kat)... The little box is silky and very trick.

the newer boxes dont like the stock cas disc...
