Because as it sits right now and at the time i bought my aem, the stock ecu/realtime could not rev limit past 8k rpm which i was reving past, I dont like maf's and was pushing past the limits of even the z32 maf which I was maxing out on my last setup let alone trying it on the new one, built in boost control, two step launch control, and just a wider range of tuning capabilities. wideband o2 feedback fuel correction. I mean there is just soo much more to offer over the stock ecu right now.

I know a lot of things are in the works on the realtime ecu's right now but they still havent been ironed out from what ive read and still in a testing phase.

And heck, I bought my aem ems for 750.00 with everything i needed, so realtime ecu for 400.00 or 750 for a full stand alone. The decision was clear.

I had no problem running my Calum basic that i messed with and made some changes on and it ran great, no detonation, smooth a/f across the board, 740cc 3 bar, z32 maf program and it worked great but for larger than that, I needed something with more capabilities.

I'll chime in if Blair says it's okay.

Go for it Ben There are a lot more users than I thought there were initially.

I bought the AEM prior to purchasing the tunercode which meant that it was limited in ways I didnt like.
For example:
-R/T only allowed the launch control and rev limiter to be set by fuel cut, and no possiblity soft cut
-R/T was forcing me to use maf
-R/T has the rev limiter limitation
- I bought the AEM when I was boosted, so I wanted to use the 2step, boost by gear, COP, and I wanted to build an VET, so the AEM allowed to activate VVL solenoid, or NOS
And right now I decided that its a waste to just have the AEM lying there in my room so I decided to give it a try...

I went with aem because I wanted full control and it plugged into the facoty harness. I also wanted to ditch the maf sensor. Boost mapping was also important to me.

The things that drive me to wanting AEM over RT at this time:

1. MAP
2. Traction control
3. Boost by gear (pwm output)
4. COP option (as in that I don't have to commit to it now and can easily switch down the road)

Big reasons I'd choose AEM over RT in order of importance:
  • Tuning software usability (this is a huge plus but subtle to describe)
  • Superior documentation (every single feature is documented in excruciating detail in one place)
  • Tuning main maps by pressure vs rpm
  • MAP sensor (can ditch the MAF)
  • Just about every sensor and actuator under the sun is quickly and easily supported
  • No need to mess around with XDF files
  • No need to deal with HEX ever

There are also about 100 little things that all add up. I'm not familiar with the state of the art of RT tuning though so I won't say for sure what AEM has that RT doesn't in this regard.

Don't know if it counts but I have a series 2 AEM for my car. I would like to see what kind of power I'm to make with the JWT that's in the car now after that I will start playing with it.

Yeah you are out of date with what is going on now with tunercode and nismotronic. Only the 3 bolded ones are valid... and 2 are the same really... and soon will not even be true either.
