Thread: traditional rom board and realtime, the tune is so close, yet so far away

I just bought my se-r vvl. It has a calum real-time, and I found a guy that had his car dyno tuned and he had the exact same setup minus the asp header and 3" exhaust I have. He sold his car, and sold me the tune (on his chips), sent me the chips, but as I'm reading and learning I"m realizing a traditional rom board with removable chips is not only not what I have, but my real time ecu will not allow me to plug in the tuned chips. (you experienced guys are laughing at me at this point...). So, my question is, is there a way to get the tune off these chips? I guess I need it converted to a bin file so I can load it on my realtime ecu? Is this correct? If anybody can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Danny

You need to get the data off the chips. Anyone with a burner can do it or you can put them into an ECU and read them out from there. If you send them to me I will send you back the bin file. If you want the actual chips back just send me enough for postage back to you. Send me a PM.

What Obewan says you have to do is correct. Also be aware that the B13 and B14 bins are not interchangeable. So you should make sure that tune that you bought is compatable with the car that you bought. If not, all is not lost - the basic data can be transferred (K-value, fuel and timing maps) but it will take some special attention. Just be aware of that.

Ok, so I've downloaded the TunerPro RT and the correct XDF file. The program recognizes the ECU in the car, but I am struggling to learn anything about the program and how it works and I can't even pull up the bin files on the car. I don't want to screw anything up, and I can't seem to figure out how everything works on the program from any of the searches I've done. Is there a link that I've missed that will teach me how the program works and how to work with it? Essentially I want to save the tune (bin) I've got on the ecu now, I'm going to send the chips I've got to obewan, he'll in turn send me the bin on those chips so I can load them, but if there are any issues I want to be able to just reload my current bins. I just need a tutorial on working with the basics of the program. I'm not going to try to tune the car myself or anything like that YET, LOL! Thanks in advance to all your help! Danny

Should be a good resource. I've never used RT -- Calum Basic for me.

That's where I've been hanging out... still haven't been able to learn the basics there, seems to be plenty there for after I've learned the basics of the program...

I understand what you might be going through. Calum was so close to this stuff that sometimes he forgot to mention things that were essential to the reader but second nature to him. Sorry I can't help because I never used a Real Time.
