The fewer slots give less accuracy and slower CAS sync which can make start-up after cranking take fractions of a second longer (the loss of accuracy is almost of no concern) but allows the ECU to deal with much less data.
Because of the data overload often you will have problems with ignition at heavy loads, certain rpm, or other crazy places.

The RWD engines all seemed to get the 50mm design from the S13 on up. The 50mm RWD CAS discs will physically install into a later-model FWD distributor but the inner 4 slots are likely not the same length (they weren't in my case) and will probably cause problems on a stock ECU. I would imagine the 20V has the same 50mm CAS as all the others, but it's inner 4 slots might be specific to that engine. I wouldn't know.
