Another day, another question. I'm planning to get a Calum Realtime (when he comes back) for my turbo motor. I realize a wideband is a must for tuning. But is a SAFC also necessary?

No, with the Real Time you can change all of the necessary parameters.

Injection Timing.

Have you had an opportunity to play with injection timing on SR's?

Standard practice at WOT is to have the injection event occur while the valve is closed, so that the fuel will atomise better.
What's got me thinking is this quote from a west coast tuner & EMS manufacturer (Lance @ Pantera EFI):

The "Injection Instant" is MOST IMPORTANT, but remember that this must be put into perspective, "when the engine is throttled at lower injector duty cycle".
At low injector duty cycle (5%-10%), I have recorded a 100% + increase in power when this event is correctly timed to the maximum airflow rate into the cylinder.
That fuel injection event is in degrees and needs to be advanced similar to the ignition timing. (Spark Instant)
When the turbo engine has this event correct, the engine will "come alive" (spool) MUCH faster off the corners.
That's a big increase at light loads! I want to see if I can realise any gains myself - I have a standalone that'll let me specify injection timing in a table, and whether it's for start of injection, end of injection or center of injection.

I have played with Injection timing, but my results were far different from that guys. I didn't notice much difference.

My BMW didn't have sequential injection sync, so I couldn't time the injection pulses, but I didn't do batch fire, I did banked injection. This means that every time the engine started, it had a completely random injection timing. I noticed no difference.

Guess you can't expect much change if you're running non-sequential injection huh.

I'm gonna have to jump on the dyno to work this out.

Can you get rid of the IACV and other cold idle stuff you have AEM EMS and MAP & IAT setup?
