Thread: COP (coil on plug) pencil coils that will fit a FWD engine.

You could always take up the difference with a suitable spring. Many OEM coils have them built in anyway to take up slack. Coat with dielectric grease and be off to the races?

Some additional info, it might not be all that bad of an idea to have an ign switched relay coming straight from the batttery to power the 12v lines.
Also, to build your own loom (or modify current loom) you'll be needing the female plugs: 1J0973724
Obviously you'll have to delete the stock igniter chip if you have one (coming from an s14, i'll have to delete mine). Most how-to's explaining how to wire in coils with built-in igniters provide all the info u need.

There appears to be quite a few combo's out there!

I picked up a 20v VC for $125 new and retro fitted the K20 Denso smart coils. They work flawlessly, 2 line up perfectly, 2 require a bit of massaging the coil pack bolt holes.

Running in Rwd configuration did require me to change the now rear facing VC vent tube. I pulled the 90* one out of my P11 VC and it fit into the 20v VC.

Decided to grab a set of GSX-R 600 (2006-2007) coils to try out. If these don;t work, I will try the GSX-R 1000

Part numbers: Gixer 600 - 129700-4800
Part numbers: Gixer 600 - 129700-5100

The only difference is the coil "boot". The 5100 is deeper than the 4800. However, everything else (including dwell time) is the same for all 129700 line

This will be on a P11 valve cover

As far as wiring, here it is (the pencil coils are two connector: trigger and +12V)
