Thread: whats wrong with nistune

Don't confuse real-time tuning with changing the program (firmware, or bin) running on the daughter board. A Nistune daughter board running a Nistune ENT bin allows you to tune (modify table and scalar values) in real-time using the Nistune software. You just can't change the program running the engine (which is part of the bin) without the Nistune "Base Image Programmer" hardware. The "Base Image Programmer" requires removing the daughter board from the ECU, but not swapping chips.

Which TBH is the same thing, Dave. If I have to remove any component of the ECU to change a base program, it's not a realtime in my eyes. The Nistune then is nothing more than a Basic that you can tune in realtime. May as well grab an SAFC and tune out a JWT.

Again, not knocking either JWT/Calum/Nistune. Just stating my personal opinion.

Swap chips???? wtf are you talking about?. I have never swapped chips while running my nistunes. If your looking to do more than 5 ecu's then u should prob get a work shop licenses in the 1st place. I use mine for 2 ecus Type 2 and Type 3 daughter boards. a little knowledge is dangerous.

but basicly your stuck with the one "bin" ? no uploading other peoples bins they've shared?

you can upload other peoples bin if you want but it won't work real time from my experience. Matt had to do something with a bin file I tried one time.

From my understanding of the concept of "real time" and the use of it by Calum and Nistune, I believe they both qualify. Tuning the maps and values in real time is the selling point. No need to swap chips to get the ECU to behave differently! Buy now! Financing available!

If you have to swap chips or do some other type of rain dance to switch the firmware or the base calibration, that's not ideal, but it doesn't disqualify it from being a device that can be tuned in "real time".

^Correct. I knew that, but if I have a fully bolted DE on stock compression, stock injectors, and stock MAF. Then later on down the road I want to upgrade to a VE and switch to a VE bin file. I should only have to upload the new bin file, not change a chip or mess with anything on the inside of the ECU correct?

that is completely correct. i had a problem with matt installing the wrong "bin" in my board when i got it. i needed it to be for my VE and it was set up for a DE. so my boy who has the image burner went ahead and burned the new "bin" file on there for me.

let me clarify that you will have to unplug the board from the ecu and put it on the image burner to do this. you cant do it just through the consult port.

What I mean is, you have to swap chips when you want to change the base program. Yea I understand that you can modify the base program in RT, but if I wanted to change the base program you have to burn the chip and swap it in. It is realtime for the base program, but not having the ability to change base programs easily is wack.
