Stock Timing but Dizzy not centred? SR20ve.
SR20ve motor

My dizzy is NOT set in the middle even though my timing is set at 15*. It is on the advanced side. Why?

I used 2 different timing guns to verify this.

With the dizzy advanced all the way, the highest timing I would get is 20* (not that I would go there!)

Mods? - SR 16ve cams only.

Wonder if the fact that I had to pull up 2 dizzies to make them work could cause this. One would not line up on the motor (wrong bracket) so had to use another one bracket.

Car runs fine though. No pinging. I use 90 Octane

Will post some pics.

Was ECU in "Set Timing Mode" when you were checking the timing? This is a must for reading base timing.

If so, I would question whether your exhaust cam timing is off. This will affect distributor placement. There is only one way the distributor will go in relative to the exhaust cam.

a slight advance is no big deal. I have to have mine advanced quite a bit to get 15* because I had the block shaved on the build. It retarded the timing a bit.
