Thread: AEM EMS Guru's and users come on inside

Ok after weeks of debating and talking to friends on whether I should get a JWT ECU with an SAFC or a Calum ECU with an SAFC or an AEM EMS............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ...... I took the plunge and ordered the AEM EMS . I need someone to take me under their wings and let me know all that I need to know in this the darkside of the stanalone world I have a B13 chassis so unfortunately there is no OEM AIT sensor like you lucky bastards with B14's and B15's What do you guys think did I make the right choice? Have I bit off more than I can chew? Ok so I know that I don't have the AIT sensor and that I'm going to have to install a Map sensor so I was wondering how hard it's going to be to wire those into the AEM being that the AEM uses the OEM sensors and wiring harness. Let the suggestions opinions and advice start flowing guys. I'm also going to do a write uo on the Install of the AEM into my SE-R for those of you guys that want to take the plunge but are scared because of the lack of info out there for us.

Well all I will say is you can get a car running 10x better 10x faster using a base map and a Calum realtime board. Why do the hard work when Nissan did it for you 15 years ago.

Well you picked a much better choice than the craptastic SAFC. It is very easy to wire in both an IAT and a MAP for use on the AEM, it is very flexible. You can run new wire to the AEM unit, or utilize existing I/O's that are no longer needed like the egr or aiv wires. The AEM software lets you designate what wire does what, it is very thorough. AEM should have provided base maps for your application, and drive around with a wideband and get it in the ballpark. Then take it to the dyno to max it out.

What is your set-up scrildo???? The AEM basemap for nissan was no help for my set-up in my NX, we got to redo all the maps that AEM recommends not touching. The parts of the maps that you can download the wizards from AEM to help. When we have done AEM's on KA's or rwd sr20's the base maps are very helpful from AEM and the AEM forums. Im not sure why we were having such issues, possibly to do with the CAS, anyways. PM or post up if you are having issues with starting the car.
But i believe you made a great choice with getting an AEM. Having the ability to designate completely what you want done just provides more flexibility than a stock ECU, or reflashed or JWT, or whatever... on another note if you blow an I/C pipe you can at least drive home just no boost on tap then......
Then you can set-up boost per gear, 2-step, ect... the list of options is quite long!

The options are amazing, and on the other forum I posted up a lot of info for installing the AEM on a B13/S13 ECU.

will your cruise control still work?

I thought the cruise control was a completely separate system from the ECU (on a B13 at least) but now that I think about, I'm not so sure. I'd like to know this as well. I guess I could go look at the FSM.
