Thread: question re: mounting wideband o2 in cat convertor

Just wondering if i can get an accurate reading putting the wideband in the cat converter where the rear o2 sensor would screw in. I bought a 3" cat with an o2 bung.

anyone???

i would say if it is behind the cat then the wideband would be reading wrong, cause the cat is there to burn the excess fuel out

I have read that the cat will change your AFR readings. How much, I do not know. Truth is that I get very close readings from my wide band reading in front of the cat and a tail pipe sensor on a the dyno I use (wich would be after the cat).

yes make sure its before the cat, thats where i put mine.... cuz after it will get the wrong reading.

I was also told that the correct location was before the cat.

i thought you could put them behind, like the dyno's have them, but apparently the dyno's have automatic compensation or something that makes them really accurate. and read allot more things comming out.

AEM UEGO instructions it says the following about locations to put the O2 bung on.

For NA: at least 18" away from the exhaust.

For Turbo: at least 36" from the turbo, do not put it before the turbo.

Closer then that will make the sensor overheat. Putting it behind the CAT will make it have incorrect readings because the cat will burn off unburnt fuel!

Kinda wonder how the guys with exhausts that dump at the front bumper and turbo have there's mounted...?

I was thinking of doing that, but that's a LOT less than 3 feet from the turbo.
