Have you done the math on the ostrich setup vs realtime? IIRC it only take 3 basics sharing an ostrich setup to make it worth while (with 2 you are almost even). You don't need realtime most of the time. Could also share the cost with locals that have basics... or rent it out to them... etc etc. It isn't as bad as you make it out to be. Honestly I am thinking about selling my realtime because I don't like having to deal with USB cable dangling around for no reason especially when I start racing it.

thats because you have a calum an thats how he made them, the nistune uses the consult port so i can just unplug it when ever i want, i can tune when ever i want with out doin anything special.. im not tryin to put the ostrich down, its just not for me.. i dont know any locals who have anything to tune really so sharing with them wouldnt help lol

i think he's doing a great job an i cant wait to try the stuff out for myself

Couple things:
1. Nistune isn't an option in regards to software we are discussing or anything in this section
2. I had Nistune before the dash forum started, so I don't need to be told about it

I'm not referring to the software just the board not having the usb cable built on..

i realize its hard to tell someones tone of voice over a forum, a lot of misunderstandings can happen. im not trying to school you or diss on what you like or anything, that's why i said things such as "for me" and "i" ect..

sorry if what i was saying sounded rude or condescending

What's the deal with the ostrich setup? Is it an on the go chip burner?

He's not trying to school you just telling us how nistune does it. I personally didn't know that Nistune just did everything over consult. Kind of nifty actually.

The ostrich is a chip emulator, which can be reprogrammed on the fly. Which means you take your chips out and install two ostrich emulators in place of the chips.

You then can upload the base calibration onto the ostrich and start tuning in realtime. You can make full base calibration updates or just update parts of the tune that you wish to change. This can all be done while the car is running/driving, etc.

The ostrich updates are MUCH MUCH faster than the consult re-flashing as it is not limited by the baud rate of the ECU.

This is what one looks like, it has a little black box, a USB cord and a ribbon cable that goes from the Box to your ecu (replaces the chip).

Once you actually use one and compare it to consult reprogramming, you will know what I mean when I say I never want to go back to doing everything through the consult.

While it is a great concept, it definitely isn't the best method.

Now Calum's RT is not dependent on the consult right?

Thanks for explaining the Ostrich setup, that's actually not a bad price for Real Time tuning. Actually it costs just about the same as one real time does. If you have two you save about $200.

Correct.... There are 2 com ports through the USB. One for Consult data and a second for emulation/"burning". So it is a completely seperate data stream.

Also, you have to have an Ostrich for each chip.

@Lynchfourtwenty - I am just tired of seeing Nistune discussed when it has nothing to do with what is in this thread or section. So it is my bias. You also probably don't know that I am very familiar with Nistune and how it all works. Also the RT2 has removable USB cable...
