Why not just leave the OBDII stuff alone?

This was my next question. My 1995 is OBD II but does not even have an OBD II port. But it does have two o2 sensors and has the OBD II style connector for the ECU. It has consult and that is all. But, also, my car will pass any inspection that the "gub'ment" can (as far as I know, legally) throw at it.

If it is there, I either have not looked well enough or it is somewhere else.

The fact is that it can be used in ones that are obd2 emission tested. It doesn't matter that it is also in one that isn't. And trying to prove that you DIDN'T touch the obd2 stuff after recompiling the firmware would be a nightmare.

Legal issues + engineering = nightmare sometimes... This gets to be a real sticky issue. Easiest legal thing usually is to label off-road use only and just wash your hands of it, but by recompiling the firmware and leaving the obd2 in there it makes the intent questionable.

Longer answer: When scanning your VIN, the database reports that the vehicle is an OBDII emissions compliant vehicle. By law, the emissions station has to test based on the scan to the database, or they risk losing their license as a station, and the worker will be fired and quite possibly could be fined as it's a federal offense if the testing isn't done correctly.

If your vehicle doesn't have an OBDII port, then someone has tampered with your system. Nissan implemented OBDII prior to the federal gov't mandate of 1 January 1996. If you're not doing an OBDII based emissions inspection, then the station is not doing it right (as stated above).

I just do not know where the OBD II plug is at. I never saw it near the consult plug so I figured it was not present.

I know pepboys passed me when I even had the CEL on, so that is there own fault. My CEL is gone now and the vehicle is compliant in all ways. (as far as I know, I never hooke dit up to a sniffer after I installed cams to see the NOx levels)

OBD II causes a major headache in more than one way when it comes to tinkering around with cars, so weird.

I know many cars had the OBDII port over on the passenger side by the glove box/kick panel before the OBDII regulations came into effect (requiring it to be by the driver's side kick panel).

In OBDII vehicles, there is no consult port, it's all handled thru the OBDII port. So if you're looking under the dash close to the fuse panel, it's a white or black connector IIRC.

LikeTheMovies just informed me where the OBDII port is at. Right underneath the steering column, I will look in a few to check after I am done eating.

I know my car does have the consult port on the right hand side where the fuse panel is at. I use that port to connect my notebook with Nissan Datascan.
