Shawn craftsman is okay. They are not as accurate as fluke but cost a lot less. I am very picky when it comes to measuring tools. the fluke 113 replaced the 112 and its around 70-80 new. You can also get the fluke 114 for 99 shipped. it will be last multimeter you ever buy. I use the 114 for work and a 189 for home. I also have a fluke 4500 high resolution unit. I also have a old fluke 10 which is the grand daddy of the 112 and 113. You can have it for free just pay shipping.

Realistically any meter you listed will work for what you need, the cheaper it is usually the less accurate and less reliable it will be. The accuracy and quality of the Fluke is superb, it however does not mean it is the only Multimeter that works. The Mastertech does not look too bad, it has the diode check, up to 10A of current, and the other usual modes so if you are using it on occasion it should work just fine.

Have you looked around for a used Fluke? You might be able to get best of both worlds.

Thank you for reminding me about Ebay. Wifey is an Ebay expert. Those prices ($72-100) are much more reasonable. I'd obviously go with the model 113 pictured at $72.00. That I could justify for the best name brand.

However, I would be extremely grateful and be glad to pay shipping on your extremely generous offer on your "old" Fluke model 10. I can Paypal you the shipping amount easily enough. That would be absolutely terrific.

I'm looking at Cotrim's "used Fluke" right now.

But you are correct, I need to make sure that before I buy that I:

1) Check with the forum. Duh.

2) Have wifey check Ebay for used, open-boxes, and demo's. All of which are usually substantially cheaper. (72...yep. 135...ouch).

Funny enough, I bought a $200.00 file cabinet yesterday at Office Max. Marked down to $140.00 with the advertisement. Scratch-n-dent returned unit, minor cosmetics only, for....drumroll....$75.00. They asked me if I would be interested. I said "load it up, sold!"

Cotrim if your model 10 "pre-owned Fluke" is available, I'd absolutely appreciate it.

Mike, if I can ever return the favor, I certainly owe you one.

Unit arrived today. Have not had time today to look up a manual on-line, I am sure I can easily find something. Plus the unit looks rather simple compared to many of those I have looked at. Simple is a huge plus for me, "select", "range" and "on/off." Perfect.

I checked both Amazon and Ebay for the TL-75 test leads and it looks like they are just under $20.00 for genuine Fluke product on both sites. Seems well worth it and I will order a pair as per your suggestion.

Thanks again Mike. Not quite what I was expecting with this thread, but a very generous and happy surprise.

No Problem Shawn. That is one of the easiest meters to use that I have ever had. Its auto ranging so you set the switch to the function and go. I would also recommend a set of piercing leads. They are handy for finding breaks in wires. I will see if I can dig up the part number for those. Hopefully we can catch up at this years convention.
