Monoball bearings in a B13 rear suspension upright
Not much of a mod, but I wanted to alleviate some of the binding in the rear suspension of my friend's B13 Sentra. Eventually the car will get some tubular lateral links with heim joints, but while he was converting the rear drums of his 1.6 litre Sentra to SE-R discs, I figured I'd mod the SE-R uprights.
As it turns out, this mod is very easy to do. I sourced a monoball housing that was only .006" smaller than the ID of the lower bushing hole. So all that was required was to weld the housing into the upright. Since we're talking steel into cast iron, I used silicon-bronze welding rod and TIG'd them in place. The only other mods required are to reduce the size of the trailing arm link mounting holes from 14 mm to 1/2" ID (to match the spherical bearing ID), and to buy appropriate hardware and spacers.
