Thread: B13 rear fender flares...in metal.

First test of the car went well...Tim ran the Mt. Ascutney hillclimb this weekend. The lack of sway bars and the new compliancy of the rear suspension did give a lot more suspension movement than before. Tim ended up having to hammer the rear portion of the fender flares a bit more for clearance. He said he caught air (all 4 tires off the ground) 4 times per run. Also said the car was absolutely on rails, the toughest part was hanging on to the steering wheel!

Anyway, he ended up winning his class and placing 9th overall amongst 46 drivers.

As mentioned, Tim ran Mt. Ascutney and caught air a few times there. Here's a pic one photographer caught of the car getting a little bit light.



Interestingly, the rear suspension hasn't gone to full droop yet in this pic. I suspect it's because of the high rebound damping of the Koni's, combined with the last couple inches of the droop travel being via the flat-wire helper springs (virtually no spring rate).

Any plans to sell these rear flares on a "as-needed" basis? Maybe a matching set of fronts would be awesome for people not wanting to space the fender out.

No plans to make any more. It was done on an 'as-needed' basis. Plus I suspect most folks wouldn't have the patience to weld them on like I did.

It took me 5 hours per side to extend the inner fenders and then weld the flares in place.

Making them wasn't so bad, but then again I had a car to pattern them from. I don't have a car to pattern them from in my shop anymore.
