also you might want to think about bracketing the downpipe to the engine somewhere near the oil pan flange. thats way too much weight on the end of the exhaust housing.

the harmonics could end up causing the housing to crack or the down pipe.

also how does the end of the downpipe clear the subframe and sway bar.
typically an S shaped pipe is needed to get the pipe thru the tunnel.

Thought about 2 piecing it but he wanted all one piece. Can be put in from under the car without a problem though. Not sure about the sway bar, I asked if he needed the bend in it and was told not to worry about it. He's going to put custom exhaust on it anyways. Hadn't thought about bracketing to the motor, may take your advice on that, I just figured that the exhaust mount behind the motor would carry the weight but it makes sense to bracket it because of the flex.

I've been doing this now for a little less than a year, any input is greatly appreciated. I've already learned a lot just from personal experience. That's all that I've really had. I learned the entire welding process actually in the last year and half, I had never picked up a TIG before.

sweet man! yea all my input is all from what ive found to work or not work. haha

yea it can be tough when a customer is asking for one thing and you know its not always the best way to do it.
take my advice on this. do what you know is the right way.

some people say the cust is always right but its not the truth. esp in the custom car world.

theres a reason why they are the customer and we get paid to build them stuff.
its because we get paid for our expertise.

but anyways keep up the hard work.

Last weekend 19hrs straight cage building. HF notcher, MSC carbide grinding bits, Craftsman drill press / belt sander, HF angle finder.
Invertig 130DC @ 60A 18cfh argon, 1/16 er70s rods. Matco MIG 140 for full stitch weld of chassis.

Thanks S&W Race cars for their 10pt cage kit, and some extra plates/tubing.

lol if they pay what I ask for, I'll make anything I work on nice. I promise you when I am fully done with the fab work on my other B13 it will blow all the fab work I've done on these Hondas away.
This car got me inspired as I cut all the rust out....

great work hogan!!!
Even if it is on some honda rigs!

but like you i dont care what im working on as long as the pay is right. haha

that vrs piping looks like pretty good stuff. i havent welded one those kits up yet but i have a customer coming in soon with one of those kits. so ill see how it is.

what filler rod do u use on your ss exhaust like 16 gauge stuff? i use .045 308l. i love it. only way to do it. 1/16" is just a tad too much it cools the puddle too much.
also do you use solar flux or backpurge at all?

ill be posting my stuff up soon.
just got a new camera and have been snapping hundreds of picks just need to get my shop PC hooked up.

Thanks Doug, exactly, as long as the money is there, I will build the customer anything. The VRS piping is great, their SS is great along with the aluminized steel. Their flanges and hangers do tend to rust out easily, I usually will spray them down with high temp black spray.
I used .040 rods, and on some joints no rod at all, around flex section, and by the apexi muffler, I was able to control the pool with a swirling motion, and some manual foot pulse work. Din't back purge or use solarflux, I was helping another shop complete a few projects. As much as I can teach, they simply don't have the time to practice. Some of them have been frustrated on how hard it truly is, and how an experienced hand can weld so quickly. I told them speed will come, first be neat about it.
I may be coming up to RI for some diving around Newport in a few weeks, I'll give you a shout and do a welding geek-out.
