Stainless does better under stress due to it's ability to flex. I haven't had a mild manifold crack on me yet, but if it does I'll just bevel and weld it up.

Back to welding, my GA16DET setup has been done for a few weeks now.

6061 aluminum. 3/32" rod. 3/32" green tungsten. Wide gas lens 100% pure argon. Cuts on a chop saw and band saw.

You are only talking about a couple dollars per el difference...why skimp?

I have the straight mild tubing in stock. I also have the mild plate in stock with a hookup on water-jet. I would have to buy the stainless plate and tube, that's the reason. I know the difference on the el's are negligible.

Damn guys, it's like it's the end of the world that I'd prefer to use mild steel to make my own personal turbo manifold. What's next, you're gonna rag on me for doing all that work for a GA?

Havent had a chance to post in a while. Finished up the 1.8t.

Stainless sch10 piping
308l .040 filler
backpurged with argon

Intercooler piping is just an ebay kit that we cut up and welded. MAF, MAP, and various bungs for vacuum lines etc. were all added back in factory locations (sort of). Customer is going to still be using the factory computer with a re-flash.

Reservoir is all 60 series aluminum, had to make room for the I/C piping to run underneath.

We've also got an old school 944 Turbo at the shop that is getting some love. Currently working on the intake manifold and getting some practice in on my aluminum skills.

...and made a totally solid mount for my car a couple weeks ago.

Able to finally escape my engineering job to finally finish the projects I left people hanging on. Walked back into the shop, dusted off the mask and got busy....sorta. The next few days will be nothing but tig all day and night. Time to sweat it out in the shop.
Everlast 185 Micro; 18cfh Ar; 1/16" lanthanated Tungsten; all footpedal pulse style; 308l .040 rod
Y-Pipe w/ pendant brace for custom M37 exhaust for Kenny aka itsdamayor

Sufferred some argon poisoning as I have a massive headache, but worth it
Made a big brother for the above Y-pipe for M37 exhaust project we have coming up.

some brotherly love ?

Finally got around to finishing a project for a member on the forum, wanted to do an EWG on a GTiR manifold similar to one I built for a customer @ TM-SPL. Requested the hump on collector be removed to improve flow.

Everlast 185 Micro; 20cfh; PyrexCup; 1/16" lanthanated tungsten; 1/16" 308L rod; straight 85A
Mocked up and burned her in, after 400* preheat of manifold.

I considered using 309 rod but I had preheated the cast iron and did an acid clean up on surface to ensure proper penetration as I used sch 40 as elbow to match thickness of material when I did the other gtir manifold ewg conversion I used 308 rod and its been holding up fine. 309 I'll use when doing exhaust systems that have a mild steel section that will be welded to resonators or muffler pipes
