Thread: Welding masks .....what do you have ??

I use a Miller Elite at work & home but will be picking up a 3m speed glas

I recommend a Jackson autodark. My friend is an ironworker and he turned me onto Jackson. I did welding for 2 years with a regular Jackson flip, but for the tedious jobs I used a Jackson autodark. The problem with the autodarks is that you get about 1/20,000th of a second per "weld start", so if you add up the welding, in a day I did about 1,000 to 2,000 "weld starts" and that means every week you would get almost 1 second direct exposure, so I didn't use the autodark that much. If you don't do it for a living, go with a Jackson autodark or Miller (or a good one - NOT harbor freight unless you test it before using each time). Get a good one; you can't put a price on your vision. Also, I'm sure you all know this, but bystanders often do not know about the dangers of watching welding...so be careful NEVER weld where children that won't know better can watch you weld. When I was a kid, our friend's went blind for 3 days after watching a city worker welding something once.

i use miller elites, with auto dark... for the money they are not bad... harbor freight ones tho.. are good starter helmets, helmets, u kinda get what u pay for, and i don't know about you, but i like to be able to drive home at night after a full day of welding (mig, tig, arc, plasma cutting everyday) without being flashburned.. and i have yet to have any issues other then the headgear is made of plastic bits, and u have to be careful not to pull ur helmet to high or pull it to low, cuz it will break the lil stop tabs. on mine i just drilled them out and put a ziptie, cuz i use my helmet only, and i like it in one place/the same place every time i put it on. luckily most welding supply stores carry Miller, and u can just get replacement parts all day. fairly cheap too.. harbor freight is kinda like, once u break it, throw it away.

if u weld alot, get a solar charged one, if u barely weld, get soemthing that solely relies on batteries.

they are nice and adjustable too, u can adjust shade, sensitivity, and delay, depending on what u do will definitly help prevent from going blind. lol
