FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Due to unforeseen miscommunication with the organizers at Autoclub Famoso, the Saturday drag event has been moved forward to Friday, October 7th at Buttonwillow Raceway. Unfortunately the staff was unable to relay info about a major schedule change concerning our date.
We know the implications and concern associated with this change. We also understand the inconvenience that our team is bringing upon our attendees that had planned on Saturday arrival to the convention. Please know that we did not take the news lightly.
This decision has been made with the utmost care and concern for everyone attending this year’s convention. We are confident that this year’s day at the track will be one that we will remember for years to come.
We have extended the track day hours from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. – this will provide ample time for everyone to participate in the road course and drag portions of the event. Night sessions have been opened for a portion of the event as well. The track day schedule is subject to change.
The drag strip is approximately 3,500ft in length (3/4mi)
In regards to the quality of the tarmac, Les from Buttonwillow has assured us that the track regularly sees high horsepower cars and will prove no issue for our vehicles. Drag charge will be $50 flat rate per car.
We acknowledge the concern about timing on the drag strip and have been in contact with a few companies, which we believe will be able to provide timing.
Updated itinerary is as follows:
October 6, 2016 – 3 p.m. Hotel Meet & Greet – Hampton Inn Bakersfield - Hwy 58.
October 7, 2016 – 7 a.m. - 10 p.m. Road course and drag – Buttonwillow Raceway
October 8, 2016 – 12 p.m. BBQ – Raffle/awards ceremony/car show – Location TBD.
Track day schedule below:
7 a.m. - Drivers meeting/safety counsel/tech inspection
8 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Road course block
4 p.m. – 6 p.m. – Break
6 p.m. – 10 p.m. – Drag block
Regards,
Christian, Tyler, and Steve.

how lame smh. the majority of the peeps out here is what they come out for ,to drag race. funny how the organizers haven't even took the decency to post up the braking news on the forums lol. thank you @92SentraSE-R for taking the initiative to inform the community. fontana is having an event on the 29th of october me and about 15 other sr20 heads that were going to attend the convention will be there just in case if anyone else wants to show up and race.

thanks for posting it for me =)

drag racing may not be happening at famoso but in all honesty the previous years everyone has struggled to even get in a decent amount of runs due to the other attendees. Buttonwillow may not be ideal for the die hard drag racers but it is what we will be offering as an accommodation. hope to see you there, don't underestimate how fun it can be to have your own two lanes strictly dedicated to our event.

I'd like to add that this event is not necessarily to please one person or a small group of people it's about our community as a whole, gathering together and enjoying the company and presence of the group that shares the same passion. the road course and the drag racing only enhances the experience but at the end of the day it is about our ongoing passion that we carry for our community and vehicles that will bring us together.

I've been attending these west coast conventions since day one and not once have I had an issue with running a limited amount of times, that's just bs. I ran at least 10 times every year. Not sure how you concluded that lol.

Maybe if you and the rest of the convention coordinators would've secured the drag strip as you guys did buttonwillow none of this would've happened. Take responsibility and stop pointing fingers at famoso drag way.

Funny how you say this isn't to please one person or a group when the majority of the people that attend come out to drag race.

Have you guys even come up with a t shirt design yet? The convention is right around the corner and i have yet to see a pre order or anything regarding a convention t shirt. Also is there going to be trophies for the different categories?

It just seems like this has to be the most disorganized west coast convention thus far and all that has changed was the new coordinators.

I really don't like to point fingers but all this set backs are due to people underestimating the work involved in running a successful convention. If you guys needed help you guys should've asked for help. Im always more then willing to help out when needed, also other fellow so cal sr20 peeps that I know would too.

What's done is done now and there's no going back. Just to let you know, I do appreciate that the coordinators at least came up with an alternative which is going to have to suffice for this year. It's just blows that the original convention format wasn't followed.
