That by itself seems like the biggest obstacle for organizers. I don't imagine anyone wants to get stuck coming out of pocket.

With all that said future track days at the convention have three feasible options.
1. Piggyback with another groups that has rented a track.
2. Due to low enrollment. Open up our track day to other forums and clubs. Have it setup far in advance for folks to pay.
3. Not have a track day any longer and make sure it is crystal clear upfront when posting convention info.

I don't believe there are other options.

*Apparently* we would also need at least several (or maybe all of the) track folks to pay the track fee(s) way in advance.

For the record, I am down with option 1 & 2 above. That would not bother me a bit, in fact it could be tons of fun. Option 3 is lame and I hope that is not the way we as a Community go.

My 99% street-car is over-built the way it is because of those once-a-year at the Convention road-course track days.

Yes. I agree. Pay wayyyyy in advance.
Option three may have appeared to some this year, but it wasn't clarified. There was a bunch of conflicting info which caused confusion and frustration. My belief is it probably caused some folks (me included) to really question the convention, organizers, and future. We did not have any answers and it may have been speculated or assumed what truly happened because there was a lack of responses for awhile.

My goal with this thread would be constructive feedback and suggestions. A lot of us are frustrated. Maybe pissed off. Seems some are good friends with the organizer and defending him - which is good.
Again, confusion and frustration transpired. Hence chaos.

Even though it looks like we will never have track days like the past, I would like to see a track option.

My humble 2 pesos.

this whole thread has my mind boggled. For the people saying hey you drag guys would you trailer 8 plus hours for a car show and picnic i know i would just to show my car and support my damn community hell i have been going for the past 4 conventions and i haven't once brought my car .What we need to do as a group not regional groups is combine all of the resources and great ideas to bring together one hell of a national convention so that we can please as many people in the community as we can.

Next convention should have a boxing gym within driving distance so people can throw on gloves and headgear.

So, I haven't been to a convention yet.... I'm looking forward to going this year hopefully if my car is done by that time :smh: long story... But I see there is a clear organizational problem (I actually read every single post). It's challenging for companies and groups with a reasonable overhead budget to successfully pull off a national event a year in advance and here it is expected from one person or a select few people with no overhead budget to start. Maybe as a new person to the community I can shed some light on a possibly new idea(or get bashed and shunned away into a corner to cry), I don't know how you pick your events or who will host them but why not try this out for the future.

ANY party interested in hosting the "convention" should do research and extensive leg work prior to being selected to host. (eg. phone calls to tracks, and venues for pricing/insurance requirements/as well as group size information). I know people will bring up the fact what if a track goes out of business or closes etc... This is why you call numerous places and get a general idea if a track will be closed for renovation, it is usually known more than a year in advance due to the regulations which are required(Of course no one can prevent mother nature though).

At the end of the current convention every interested party presents the information which they gathered to the group.

The group selects the next years convention by the amount of information provided, and at the same time pre-payment for road course events can be obtained in person if need be or are available....

Now we all need to understand that life happens so things can change. But realistically it's like presenting a successful business plan(the convention research and ideas) to a group of investors(the members who are anticipated to attend) and getting them to want to go to your event, and also since some of the leg work would've been done already prior, planning the rest of the event would/should be easier since all the preliminary steps are complete.

At the end of the day it's about the cars and the community, so instead of bashing back and forth put your heads together and try to think of a solution AS A COMMUNITY. Yes there will be disagreement but in my "noob" eyes if you're not part of the solution or trying to think of a neutral reasonable one, you're part of the problem!

@bgreen I would like to make my first ever convention with my car, I always hated sitting on the sidelines lol but if I never get a chance to bring it to any other conventions after this I'll be at peace as long as I know brought it to my first one

Is there any thought to contacting other car clubs to see if they want to split the road course with us? OR find the location where you want to have the convention at and talk to the track and find out if there are other clubs racing during that time. Granted its another factor to have to worry about, but if you can team up with another club thats more active and has more members you could secure a nicer track and maybe keep the fees down. I know most of us are involved in several other clubs and forums, maybe we could contact one of those clubs as well. You can still keep everything else separate from them, but just run the track day with them.
