What came first, people or cars?

Stop chasing.

Which came first, the Convention or the EGG?

Without people, there can be no community. Without community, there will be no conventions. Without conventions, there will be no EGGs to show.

wow............
Many of us are very passionate about how we think the convention should be setup. Present party included.

Seems like the biggest issue for most people at the convention is having a road course OR not having a road course.
I know it is very difficult AND expensive to organize a road course event "just for the convention members"....it has been suggested to "piggyback" off another track group. Granted, there many not be as many sr20 ppl that can participate AND there will be other makes/models of cars, however, I believe it may be a viable solution in the future ---- based on what has transpired with the lack of a road course day.

Rather than bitch and complain (I know, I was guilty and admit it) can we try and focus on coming up with an agreeable solution???

My humble suggestion is to team up with one of the driving venues that already have relationships with tracks, etc. Let's say they have a total of 60 cars on a track with 3 groups....if we can secure so many spots (let's throw out 20 spots for this case) and run with them. Typically these events are roughly $300 each car. $300 X 20 is $6,000. We promise them $6,000 and SR20 members have so many days to pay in full. After that deadline, we open it up for other members on other forums ----- most of us belong to other forums. I personally belong to an infiniti forum, mustang forum, and corvette forum (SUV forums don't count in this example).

I believe this format will eliminate a great deal of burden on the "convention organizer", since the road course is typically the most expensive and most difficult to setup.

Does this make any sense at all???
COMMENTS? QUESTIONS? CONCERNS?

...or get the track day secured first and base the convention date around that?

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing on your comment. That is one possible idea.

But as we have learned, it takes quite a bit of work and I would Imagine that the track wants all the LLC paperwork in place, proof of insurance, and some type of deposit or paid in full. I cannot be 100% certain b/c I have not organized an event. My suggestion ABOVE would eliminate a large portion of the work. Past/present/future organizers may or may not be able to give convention organization as much time as it may (or may not) need.

Like the rest, I'm all for new locations and suggestions. Not feeling like GA, or OH again.

But...that all depends on people who want to organize. Probably only a handful willing since the past 5 years it was like pulling teeth to get enough people to sign up for road racing. Heck, I paid for 2, and didn't drive either time (car wasn't ready, or couldn't attend).

It's a stretch getting 15 people to pay upfront, 20? LOL

I'm in no position to have an unexpected $1000 come out of my pocket either.. @happynole, what were some of the unforeseen expenses?

Don't you realize that's close to impossible at this point? We just don't have enough people willing to track their cars. It takes money to secure a track. So how do you propose securing a track first?

Back in the days of SERCA, they had a fund, which grew every year, and they used that money to get the track locked up well in advance. Those days are long gone, my friend.
