I've been wanting to host a convention in TX, as it's been many years, but I'm not sure I would even attempt it now. Not to mention, I don't see the same commitment, track day secured or not, for the supposed die-hard enthusiasts when a multi-hour drive is involved. I know we can't always make the date, I haven't made them all but I've made several and have convention T-shirts dating back to 1998.

I don't think more segregation is the answer.

Still too early to discuss 2016 when we still need to figure out 2015.

My opinion, Raul @OptimumSE-R needs to be considered for 2016 to host his convention on a National Level. He has a formula that works and hosted one of the best conventions I ever attended. So well organized and thought out. It was probably the best weekend I ever had. You guys who couldn't make it really missed out you have no idea. (yes I know its far from some of you)

For those who are hung up on the roadcourse issues ,consider the West Coast Convention. (rent a car or just ride as a passenger.

Slow Honda? Really.....it beat a BOLT on DE SE-R, my friend. 15.9 @ 90mph for a 4 cylinder AUTOMATIC is not bad (not fast by any means). and regularly sees 40 mpg on the highway. Wow.
I took my "slow honda" because I just got it "brand new" and was curious to see if I could duplicate claimed times.
There were WAY slower pieces of crap running that day. I believe a KIA was running 18's. I didn't hear anyone bashing on that vehicle.

It is about having fun folks.....not teasing, not bashing, not being an asshole. Yes, certain ball busting is OK, but I didn't know any of these punks. Never seen them b4

Nevertheless, REGARDING THIS TOPIC, I see how some of these folks operate in our community.... sign of the times. all well.......

Valid Point on my comment....it was kinda of joke that may have been taken the wrong way. My apologies.

I see the point, however, somewhat disagree.
I mentioned many times I was willing to provide assistance with the convention. I do believe that it is a lot for one person to organize.
Others have offered assistance as well.

If one decides to take on hosting the convention, they need to realize there is way more than making some phone calls and reserving some dates. And when a host indicates IN A THREAD that they don't have the time, nor desire to take payments and deal with people because they have other obligations....people have questioned it.

I think we have gotten off track and this animosity is not so constructive ----- and I am certainly guilty of this.
yes, I went a little overboard from my frustration. Absolutely agree. Like a lawyer, I argued my point like a broken record. OVER n OVER.
I apologize if anyone took offense of my comments or postings. Again, very frustrated and all that has happened.

Thanks.

Raul, Charlie & crew put together a great event. Nobody can argue that.

Bottom line... National Convention should be a national thing. Vegas Baby! Vegas!

Bring your VE & bring some GAS. Can it be any more obvious ???

Interesting to me is that I'm called out for something that I really don't remember. Oh yeah, that I had to come out of my pocket an extra grand at the end of the day for everything that we pulled off in 2015. And that's also why I'd never host another convention.

Here is where I'll draw a line in the sand. Either this convention moves forward and is inclusive of everyone or it just becomes a big meet. Meets are a lot of fun, don't get me wrong. Hell I've driven the 15 hours to CT two or three times now just for an SR20Deep meet. Had a great time and made lots of friends along the way.

The hard part of organizing a National convention is, always has been, and will always be securing a road course event. Setting a drag racing venue is relatively easy because once the weather warms there is racing every weekend all over the country as long as it's not raining. And most tracks are set up to have test n tune sessions, it's the nature of the beast. A picnic is as easy as renting a pavilion at your local state park, again about as easy as it gets.

The disconnect I'm feeling personally and reading on these pages is that it's all about the people and not about the cars. That's true and it will buy you time, but now 3 out of 5 years there will be no road course. If you are a drag racer would you continue to drive or tow 8-10 hours knowing the best you get is a picnic to show your car and the chance to watch others enjoy themselves? I'm sure I'm not alone in having limited time off for vacations. I commit one to my family and have tried to get the other week for the convention. We all know the total expense of a convention trip approaches a grand. BUT not if I don't get to play as well. I'll happily attend a couple road course events instead right in my own back yard.

I'll get off my soapbox now. I have no doubt that a good time will be had by all who attend. And I'll miss you all when I see the pics. I just know that I speak for others who want to play if they are going to pay.

Post 28 has reason and logic in it.

Which came first, the community, or the cars? :???:
