Yes, yes they do!

Nothing like taking that last turn onto the straight at 90+mph

Soooooooo want to get another car and track it

Im thinking that more people need to invest in oil coolers. I know I am.

I'm sure many tracks generate those same G's... but G forces at what speed and at what RPM for SR20 prowerd cars?? Show me trackmate data on that... then we can 100% rule this out.

Ok there were 4 people that got rod-knock. How many of those cars were taken care of is the question?

CleanSER-that is a fluke and I think the oil pump failed.
Zer099- his motor has been boosted for 5 years and I heard the knock on his first pass out.
Ben Fenner-Im sure he has had his car for awhile. Motors dont last forever.
The guy in the G20- That car looked like it had alot of miles.

Clean SER I would like to see your motor apart. To know what happened.
Guys you have to realize when you take a car to a track and beat the piss out of it-Things break. I went in a car with a JDM motor that I have put 50k miles on. If the motor blew it was expected and I wouldnt be blaming anyone or the track.
CleanSER-get that motor apart man. Id like to see it.

Old Moroso rh turn 9-10 flat track all the way around 2.5 miles 7800 rpm exit in third gear. Turn 6 on to the back stretch 7800 rpm 4 gear. 90 + deg and 90% humidity, 1.5 hr enduros, no problem. 10-30 Mob-1 oil. No traqmate needed just fact.

One thing not considered is the ambient temp at Roebling Road. It was not hot nor cold. ??????

It was warm, probably about 75 at the peak with high relative humidity. Definitely balmy, with enough of us albino mofo's gettin' burnt by the end of the day Rain kept itself at bay, fortunately.

As an aside, I have an honest to goodness noobish question to ask. How in the hell do our oil pumps fail? I've had one apart now and looked at the internals a few times, and it just doesn't make sense to me how it could "fail". It's 100% mechanical, and everything is pretty tight, not like you could knock the inner gear loose from the outer gear...

the pressure relief valve can stick open causing low oil press.

Gotcha! I knew there was SOMETHING under that cap, but didn't know exactly what (and never messed with it on my old pumps).

Thanks

FOCK FOCK FOCK FOCK!!!!!! I just happened to come across my oil jug in the garage today and noticed I was running 10w30! not 10w40!! That's what I get for waiting till the last minute to get my car ready. In fact I got to DMV that Thursday @4:45pm to get my car on the road. They close at 5.
I bet the oil was just too thin in my engine for that kind of driving.

My engine was actually not that old. Not new or anything, but maybe 100k miles with only 10k or so on the rod bearings.

I have it all apart and the ticking is still a mystery. It may have been a collapsed exhaust lifter but we'll never know. It wasn't rod knock, that's for sure. The bearings all look fine with no signs of overheating or excessive wear anywhere.

The motor is toast though. Using it to cut my teeth in the tuning game has taken it's toll on the engine. The pistons on the intake side show the signs of too many miles of minor detonation (while N/A and boosted). The sleeves at the top of the block are also showing damage. The piston skirt on piston #2 is scored pretty well from rubbing the cylinder wall (no idea why, maybe play in the wrist pin). Cylinder wall is obviously scored too. The head towards the intake side shows a lot of pitting as well.

It's game over for this puppy. But it wasn't rod knock. Can't believe it. The oil was thin, and had a lot of gasoline in it, and the oil pan was dented pretty badly. No idea why I even showed up to the track like that. Something died, and I'm still not sure what. The ticking was half engine speed. That's something in the head. All the valves looked to be seating properly. Oh well...

Time for a new solution. I'm still weighing my options.

This may be true in FWD SR20DE[T] world, but there's a whole 'nother world out there where engines happily take this abuse.
