i havent read the whole thread just flicked through it, but my question is;

OF THE CARS THAT GOT ROD KNOCK, HOW MANY OF THEM WHERE RUNNING LIGHTENED PULLEYS?

biggest factors for rod knock are:
crappy lightened pulleys
high oil temps
sustained limiter abuse (more a rwd thing when drifting)
high revs

run all of these together and and you are asking for trouble.

i will NEVER run a lightened crank pulley on a sr, ever! the only time i would change would be for a heavier unit like a ross item.

Yah, I don't see how you could possibly blame rod knock on a lightened pulley (I assume you mean no harmonic balancer?). What's your theory on that one?

Yeah, you don't know what your talking about with the lightened pulleys. What ruins bearings is poor oiling and heat.

I think maybe he meant cheap lightweight pulley that isn't properly balanced?

Who aside from mossy/gspec and UR make underdrive FWD pullies?

once in a great while I have seen no-name cheapies on ebay (made in china) that I wouldn't touch! ..but I haven't seen them recently... I think that seller is long gone with too much negative feedback... lol

most light weight pullies including brand name ones such as gfb etc are utter garbage! i would never run one. I have had no expirence with the g spec ones, but i still wouldn't run one personally. they may be balanced alright.

there is a reason that oem harmonic balancers and the expensive ones are heavy. most expensive after market balencers weigh more than standard.

I'd just love it if you could relate the weight of the pulley to rod bearing wear.
While you're at it, explain why light flywheels don't cause the same thing.

because its a harmonic balancer....the weight helps with the dampening affect and balancing

What does that have to do with rod bearing wear/life?
