Bumping this down, since it was posted on the previous page last year. It's worth a second look, especially for people who have never done a track day before.

Here's the moral of the story....crazy shit can happen on track. Don't take the safety precautions, that the more experienced people preach, too lightly. This can be a very dangerous activity. The level of car prep and the safety gear you choose can be the difference between the experience of your life vs a call to your next of kin. With that said, even with the best prep and safety gear available, bad shit can happen. I just want everyone to realize they are excepting the risk the second they drive past the pit marshal.

The other thing to realize is were all out there together. We, literally, are putting each other's lives in our hands. So when you see that crappy exhaust hanger etc. etc. on your car during prep, don't just say Nelson's won't care so I'll leave it be. It's up to all of us to take care of each other and minimize the risk.

Yes, I was thinking of that exact video when I read someone else's recent post questioning why closed-face helmets might be required in the future. There was another video a while back of a Corvette encountering a deer on the track, which caved the entire windshield in. Edit: Here is that video.
Keep those visors down folks.
