For those who battle with ventilation and in hot climates something like this HJC flip up may be a good idea:

I'd never use it on a bike but for the car it's okay.

Also, consider a cooler box for the FA. Just blowing air wasn't enough when it was 95-100 outside. I still sweat

Ray did the same thing. He learned that lesson sitting in a Miata in 90 degree heat waiting for an accident from the race practice ahead of us to be cleared!

What helmet do you have? Do you really think the FA is any worse than a standard ventilated helmet in those situations?

GRMotorsports Magazine did a review of suits, helmets, etc. a few issues back.
Also, a couple of years ago, SCCA recommended open face helmets to be used in closed cars with air bags. Their rationale was that the air bag can hit the chin guard on a closed helmet and jerk the head down. I don't know if they have changed their position on that.

I was wondering about helmets, open face vs full face. I have a airbag and, while I can understand the need for full face with a bike, open face is more vented and usually allows for a wider view. Thats what Im looking for, the largest viewing area as I dont rely on side mirrors but like to also turn my head for a 2nd check.

The airbag is a good point but with a harness and proper position you are not likely to hit it anyway. My car does not have airbags so that is not a worry for me, but certainly relevant to the discussion.

I want my face protected period. Lets face it, you wear a helmet in the event that you crash, but the reality is that a full face helmet will protect you from much more than that. At speed many things enter the car. Bugs, road debris, not to mention the possibility of glass if you do get in a wreck. I want a full face with a shield to protect from all of that. ALso if you have ever gone off track or been in a car that has gone off track without a shield you will get a face full of crap. I do not want to be temporarily blinded while trying to control a car. If you wear an open face at least wear a pair of goggles.... Again this is just my opinion and why I wear a full face with a shield.

At my 1st Convention, I was riding with someone and we went off track. Nothing really happened, but the dirt and grass came pouring into the car. I had my shield up for ventilation, but I wear it down now. There was crap everywhere, but I did have my sunglasses on under my helmet.

I'll always remember seeing the cloud of stuff enveloping us.
