Ours was non-programmable, and I thought it would save us some money. I think it is... =]

Facebook album permalink.

Things got worse before they got better. I just can't leave well enough alone.

If it were jut me, I'd probably leave it like this for a while, but I'm sure Katie didn't want to look at it, so I started with the putty.

Got some other spots on the wall that needed attention.

More putty, and time for some paint.

I took a chip to the store and found paint that matched. I ended up finding a can of the real paint in the garage later on. =(

One coat, still drying.

You can still see the underlying work.

This is after the second coat, with some sanding done on some rough spots in between.

It's been a long time since I've done one of these.

The garage has no doors. It is a glorified car port really. I got tired of the pollen in the spring getting all over everything in the garage. Leaves in the fall would blow in as well and get everywhere. It was time to do something about it.
I considered all options seriously. Re-building the entire thing and expanding it in the process was on the table for some time. Realizing we will probably move out of this house after another few years and considering the return on investment, I ended up going with the cheapest option I could fathom.

I purchased two, large, neutrally colored tarps from eBay for $30. The rest of the hardware worked out to about $16?

I came up with a system of attachment that allows me to relatively easily "open" and "close" the tarps with a few clasps.

The camellia bushes out front needed a lot of work.
The tuft on top shows how much was cut back from this one.

I wish I had a garage/glorified carport... All I have is 2 carports, guess it's better than nothing though right . Open on all sides and super narrow at that. But anyways, your tarp thing... I did that last year, instead bought an old billboard tarp. Yep, the ones that say shit on them, mine was from a casino in tunica, MS advertising some free roaster. But the point is, those damn things are huge, thick and fairly durable. Got both fronts of my carports, 1 side and 1 backside. The house kinda butts up pretty close to the other side with just a small walkway in between.

We finally got decent furniture for the sun room, which was very affordable.

We gave the futon away to our college rental neighbors (mistake, should have kept it for a guest bed) to get it out of the sun room.
The furniture was a set (2 chairs, bench, and table) from World Market on sale for something like $150. We also got a wood storage bench for $80 online, and a papasan chair from Pier 1 to round it all off and create a comfortable place to sit and read.

It's been a long time since we've had a house update. I've been catching up some on hosting pictures, so here we go!

I was in the crawlspace recently and saw we had a large, un-insulated hole probably from when the previous home owner had a plumber fix a leak after our inspection. Great.

A cardboard bottom and some expanding foam gets the job done.
