They stopped updating Chrome on this one quite a while ago. No biggie. If I feel so compelled, I can drop a like from my phone or laptop.

Update (Version 1.5.0)

The mention feature has been fully implemented.

Well, later is now.

I was not looking forward to working on this feature, as I knew it would be a lot of hard work. It ended up taking a bit longer than expected, but wasn't maybe as hard as I'd feared. I guess that's because I settled for a little less than I normally would.

The main issue with the feature that may or may not ever be fixed is that the drop-down menu placement for searching users to mention is not great. I wanted it to drop down where the text cursor is, but that's actually way harder than you'd think. For now, the drop-down menu hangs out in the top-left corner of the text entry window. We'll see how that goes.

You can manually mention people in posts by typing the MENTION tags and getting the username inside correct.

However the much easier way is to type the "@" symbol into the post, and a user search drop-down menu will appear (to cancel it you can press the escape button, or click in the text box outside of the menu). You can then continue to type to search the list of users until you've found the one you want to mention. Click the user's name, or use the arrow keys and the enter key to select. Once a username is selected, the MENTION tags will automatically be added around their username. (If you press enter without selecting a username, the top name in the list will be chosen.)

When the post is saved, the user will get notified via e-mail, and using the newly finished built-in forum notification system.

All users now have links to their mentions in on their member profile page as well (same as with likes).

So I know the user search drop-down box for mentions is buggy. And by that, I mean you can confuse the searching by moving the text cursor around unexpectedly. If that happens, just cancel the thing (escape key, or click the text box outside of the drop-down menu), back up, delete text you don't want, and try again.

However, there is some other poor behavior that I do think I want to fix. Right now the drop-down really only works when you're typing new content into the text box at the end of the text. If you navigate to the middle of a paragraph and start trying to initiate a mention, the drop-down box appears but it doesn't search the correct text. I'll work on that in a bit and see what I can do.

For now, it's workable, and I'm happy with the way everything else related to this feature is working.

Update (Version 1.5.1)

The strange behavior when trying to mention a user in the middle of a paragraph (discussed in the previous post) has been fixed. The only other thing I'd wish for this feature is for the drop-down box to display at the current cursor location, instead of fixed near the top-left of the text entry box. As explained earlier, that's quite complicated, so it may never happen. If I do feel like tackling it, it won't be for a few days.

@Vadim, you may be interested to know that thread subscriptions are next on the list. I expect to get to it in the coming weeks.
I know, it's been much too long without them.

Update (Version 1.5.2)

This is a tiny update. The Terms of Service contained a link to an incorrect e-mail address for the administrator, so I've removed that.
I've also linked the Terms of Service in the footer. There has been a placeholder there for a long time, and I realized I could take care of it very quickly now.

Obviously the TOS could use a major overhaul, but that'll have to wait for another day.

Oh I accept the TOS, I tossed there m8 Your forum is doing well. Would be nice to have features that phone users actually can post a photo but by themselves do not know how to find DCIM that is a major I learned by asking the posting peoples on my forum for a long time YMMV but you knew that

You agreed to the TOS when you created your account back in 2009. They haven't materially changed any since then.

If users are visiting the forum with a telephone, and the telephone claims to have a web browser, then they can embed images just like everyone else using the IMG tags.

I realize the nifty JavaScript controls for easily embedding images don't exist yet. They are on the long list of features that are slated for the future.

Do I understand correctly I will notice some phone stuff when I actually use my phone on any forum?

If your telephone claims to have the Internet, and a web browser, than it should work with the forum. The forum is a web site, after all. There is nothing special about it that any proper, standards complaint web browser shouldn't be able to handle.

I can't speak for other forums. That's not my purview.
