Update

New threads in the classifieds work now!

It might need a tiny bit of work, and there is one little thing already I know I need to finish, but new threads in the classifieds should work relatively trouble-free now. It took a lot more effort than I imagined. Most new features these days take half the amount of work. Don't forget, all the rules for the classifieds still apply. They aren't easy to find right now, but here they are: https://www.sr20-forum.com/server-news/!77594-the-forum-rules.html?post_id=1046010#post!1046010

There is only one large feature left, and that is the search feature. There are plenty of other smaller features to add, and things to get working, but search is the only large feature we really need to be on a solid base. Since search will take a while to complete, and I'm not 100% sure how I want to accomplish it yet (probably going to have to bite the bullet and go with an Elasticsearch solution for performance reasons) I will instead work on a bunch of smaller things that have been nagging me and others for a while.

I want to get likes working, mentions working, and notifications working.
I want to get most or all of the BBC parsing working and fixed (so quotes show up properly in posts for example).
I want to get user profile settings working so people can change their avatars, and how many posts to show per page, etc.
I want to get the password recovery feature and similar things working.

The above list is basically what I will be working on for the foreseeable future. The password resets are most important, so I'll work them first, and probably work the above list from bottom-to-top.
Look forward to that stuff very soon!

In an effort to fix some permission stuff, I broke posting last night. I will get it fixed here very shortly. Sorry for the trouble!

I checked our SSL implementation and settings today and we're doing very well with an "A" rating.

For reference, here's what an "F" looks like.

Update

I know progress has slowed recently. I had a cold during Thanksgiving, and the holidays put a damper on progress here. I have since developed a viral infection (best the doctor can tell) that's been lingering for going on 7 weeks now. I've taken this opportunity to focus on some personal things that I've neglecting for nearly a year now. Working on the forum has been basically all I've done (outside of work) for a full year now and lots of things at home are piling up. I'm going to work on getting over this infection, and knock out some other long-standing items on my To-Do list.

With that in mind, I know I promised password changing soon, and password recovery for the forum. I know there are other nagging things, and obviously big features missing. I will get to them, I just need to take care of some other things first. I appreciate everyone's patience and promise you I've done my best so far to get the forum back to where it needs to be and will continue to do so in the future.

I will try to find pockets of time to work on things, but don't expect the pace to be set to grueling like it was before. I'll report back as things progress.
