Update

I had a small bit of time to work on the forum tonight, so the "reason for edit" feature works now. The reasons were not being displayed in the past, but they are now. And the opportunity to give new reasons for post edits is now there.

I've also gone a step further and improved the old system. From now on, if forum staff edit a post (or really if anyone edits a post that's not there own, like a Vendor of a section) then they must specify a reason.

I still don't have PMs going out when forum staff edit posts that aren't their own (like we had before) but that will come soon.

I realized that editing the first post in a thread is more like editing the thread itself. Until I get new threads working, editing the first post in a thread won't do exactly what we need it to. So I've removed the ability to edit the first post in a thread while I work on the "new thread" feature. I will probably make good progress on that today.

Update

Since post editing came in very recently, I wanted to get this aspect released ASAP.
Now when forum staff edit a post that is not their own, a PM goes out to the post owner to notify them of the edit, and the reason for the edit. Naturally, an e-mail also goes out to notify the post owner that they have a new PM.
We had this feature before, and I wanted to make sure we kept it.

I felt it important to get this working before moving on to other things. Now that it is complete, I consider the advanced post feature and post editing serviceable for now (it still needs more work, but that can wait). I may prefer to work on other things, but I realize people want "New Thread" functionality next, so I will be working on that.

Note to forum staff: This feature behaves a little differently than in the past. Previously, the PM went out and you would never see it. Now you will see a copy of the the PM in your "Sent Items" section. Feel free to keep them as PM limits allow, or delete them as you wish.

Post icons work now.
Update

Before working on the "New Thread" functionality, I realized I should get post icons working first so I don't need to duplicate the behavior when I work on new threads next.
So, post icons work now. I will be working on allowing for new posts next.

Well, I spent a good bit of time refactoring the new/edit post stuff so that new/edit thread functionality will go much faster. There is a lot of overlap in the functionality, so cleaning things up on the first feature before diving into the second feature was the only way to go. I thought I might be further along with the new/edit thread feature by now, but it doesn't look like it will take too much more time.

I'm still plugging away and making good progress on the new/edit thread functionality. It won't be long now.

New threads work now!

Well, new threads in most sections work. New classified ads don't work yet, but is coming soon. New polls don't work yet either.

Editing the first post in a thread should also work now just fine (as long as it's not a poll or classified ad).

This is another huge step forward for us! Things should go smoothly, but where I'm normally very confident in features, this one was written over many days and I can't say I'm 100% sure every single little thing is working properly. If you encounter any errors posting a new thread or editing the first post in a thread, let me know. =D

Do you have a list of ongoing bugs? Noticed that in PM's my signature is showing up instead of the sender's

The plan is to eventually leave this thread behind, and start soliciting bug reports from members. However, right now there are so many things that still need work (and I am aware of 99.999% of them) that it seems counter productive to get a list going just yet.

I do believe I knew about the PM signature issue, but I've since forgotten all about it. I'm actually now not sure if the old forum did that too (can check g20.net for a good reference), or if I planned on fixing it later?

Either way, there are much bigger fish to fry right now so remind me again in a bit when the dust has settled if I don't fix it in the coming weeks/months.
