Right now, this is the best, and only automatic way to change your password:

If that doesn't work, let me know which step is broken. Are you able to complete the reset form? Did you get an e-mail with further instructions? Does clicking the link in the e-mail take you somewhere where you can input a new password? Is inputting a new password not working for some reason?

Cheers!

It looks like something is wrong with the reset time window. I get the reset email, follow the link and it tells me the 10 minute time window has expired.

Weird... That happened to someone else recently. But when I went through the process for them, it worked fine. Is it taking longer than 10 minutes for you to get the reset e-mail?
Regardless, I should widen that window to 30 minutes to help people out...
Hang tight.

Okay, you should give it another try. You'll have a 30-minute window now. Let me know how it goes.

I know it's not ideal, but for the time being I can change your password for you if you want. You can PM me the new password you want. Of course I understand if you don't want me to know your password. I don't want to know it either. But I can set it for you if you'd like. And then you can change it eventually when I add that feature. =/

I've noticed https is working! I also read that I can change my password with /reset_password_init.php, but can I also change my e-mail address perhaps?

Sorry about the trouble, e-mail addresses can't be easily updated right now.
However, if you PM me with the e-mail address you'd like to use, I can update your account for you.

Thanks for reading the thread and posting your question here.

Dang, all this work you're putting in Ben! Its amazing. I haven't visited the forum in quite some time. I haven't had an sr20 car for a long time either... But I have the itch. I made the visit (which the password reset feature work beautifully ill add) only to see, well, lackluster action in the classifieds and really in many portions on the forum.

Few things
-This couldnt have been spearheaded by a more diligent guy
-I hope you are in better health, I read all the posts in this thread and its almost like you poured your health right into the forum and it took its toll on you... So I hope you are well.
-I noticed mention on the facebook integration and more action there, why wouldn't you want to drive the traffic to the forum in which you've been so vehemently shoveling work hours into?
-So far, every forum function I have had to use, works great, so again, fantastic job.
-I can help with any PPV/testing on anything you change or need a user to try that you cannot/do not want to do yourself, just shoot me an email.

I am just glad the forum is here! I used to be a great refuge for me and many others, and I, for one, and very satisfied its still here! Now- Onto finding that squeaky clean b13!

Thanks, I really do appreciate that.
And thank you for reading the whole thread. That couldn't have been easy.

My throat is still on fire, but I'm managing it with over-the-counter sodium alginate and hoping to de-stress soon which I think will help. I'm 95% sure it is pepsin reflux, I just need to order the test to be sure.
I've also developed something very similar to sciatica, and my left leg is in pain most of the time now too. That's been going on for ~6 months now and I'm working on that too. I feel a bit like I am falling apart, and I do think the high level of stress for the past couple years has to be a major cause.
Thanks for the concern. I wish I had better news to report on this front.

I want to be very clear here. The old forum software gained Facebook integration a long time ago when Cliff made that "improvement". I wish I knew better at the time to oppose the change since he asked for input. Regardless, the forum turned into another spying platform for Facebook at that time.
This new forum software has absolutely zero Facebook integration and also no longer uses Google's Captcha technology which also allowed Google undo tracking power across the site. The site stands alone now as best it can, and that's how I'll try to keep it.
I did, however, improve the site's open-graph functionality, which is a standard for other web sites to get small bits of information when someone links to the forum. So now when someone links to the forum on Reddit, or Facebook, or Pinterest, or where ever, those sites get a meaningful title from the link, a meaningful summary of the link contents, and a meaningful image to use as a thumbnail.
This was done mostly so when people like me and you link folks to the forum from other places, the link looks good, behaves well, and is inviting to guests. This is to encourage more people to visit the forum. Exactly what you're suggesting.

I hope that clears some things up for you.
Now back to my ever-growing ToDo list.
