Thread: Some minor forum organization is in the works.

Yesterday we got a legitimate complaint about selling in the Forced Induction classified section. Those selling turbochargers, whole turbo kits, and similar hardware have to compete with those selling ECUs, EGT sensors, and other electronics that really belong in the Audio and Electronics classified section. To avoid this situation and make it easier and clearer for everyone else, we are going to split "Classified - Audio and Electronics" into "Classified - In Car Entertainment" and "Classified - Tuning".

This will give a perfect place for all of the ancillary items associated with performance builds (N/A and boosted alike) like ECUs and boost controllers and wideband O2 sensors without having to post alongside the audio stuff. This has the added bonus of furthering the goal of having the classifieds mirror the tech sections. Mirroring the tech sections makes it extremely easy to determine where your item should be sold since the tech sections always seem to be better defined by nature. In the effort to get closer to a perfect mirroring of tech and classified sections, I will also be addressing a few other minor items concerning that goal.

To make it clearer, here is generally what will happen:


Old configuration:
Audio and Electronics (Gadgets, Wiring, and Sound)
Nitrous Oxide (Juicers)
Tuning (ECU tuning and general engine managment)
Turbo (Boost Addicts)

Classifieds - Audio and Electronics (Audio head units, boost controllers, gauges, etc.)
Classifieds - Forced Induction (Parts to support mechanical and chemical induction)


New configuration:
Forced Induction (Mechanical) (Turbocharging and supercharging)
Forced Induction (Chemical) (Nitrous oxide injection)
In Car Entertainment (Audio, video, alarms, and related)
Tuning (ECU tuning and general engine management)

Classifieds - Forced Induction (Mechanical/chemical power adders and non-electronic 1st-order support systems. Turbochargers (including whole kits), exhaust manifolds, wastegates, down-pipes, intercoolers, BOVs, charge pipes, oil/water lines, nitrous setups, etc.)
Classifieds - In Car Entertainment (Audio, video, alarms, and related)
Classifieds - Tuning (Tunable ECUs, gauges, sensors, and actuators. Including wideband O2 sensors/gauges, EGT sensors/gauges, pneumatic/electronic boost controllers, high flow fuel pumps and injectors, cold spark plugs, adjustable fuel pressure regulators, etc.)

Do we really need two forced induction sections? I mean is the nitrous section that active it needs its own thing? I'm all for cleaning up the front page, but that's convoluted.

The nitrous tech section was added a long while back at the request of users. If you're looking for info on nitrous setups, you shouldn't have to wade through years and years of turbo stuff to get there. It might not be a large or active section, but it's there for those few who need to get down to the business of spraying without wading through a mountain of other stuff.

Ok thats a fair argument. Just throwing out an idea, can the nitrous section be stickied in the forced induction section?

Are you talking about the newly proposed setup? You want the mechanical forced induction section to have a link to the chemical forced induction section? I don't think I'm following you.

What ever you do dont change the format or layout. The g20.net new layout sucks.

Don't worry, nothing major is happening. Just a few sub-forum renames and clarification as to what belongs in each. And then one new sub-forum.
Then a handful of threads will be moved to where they belonged in the first place.

I just mean create a general forced induction section titled "forced induction", and within it a stickied thread specifically for nitrous. It accomplishes both goals while maintaining a lean structure.

There are currently 99 threads in the Nitrous sub-forum. There is no way that is going to be consolidated into one sticky thread.
I'm all for slimming down, but this doesn't look like the place to do it.

I forgot that a sub-forum name change means that existing links to threads in that section will no longer work. Unless a new feature of vBulletin has fixed that problem. I will do a test and see.
If changing the sub-forum name breaks links then we may have more thinking to do. Personally, I don't have a big problem with it, but it could be quite obnoxious for others and I don't want to make things harder for anyone.

Edit: I had a hunch that vBulletin or one of our plugins dealt with this situation correctly, and I was right. Existing links to threads still work after the name change, so there is nothing to worry about there.
